Liero colors??

liero is a game.  kind of like worms, except in real-time.

And the palette is mostly browns, with a few different team colors, gray (for the rocks), and red.

To be sure, Andrew Plotkin and Adam Cadre are IF writers (Plotkin in particular is a god among men, IF-wise).  Shade by Plotkin and Shrapnel by Cadre are quick, relatively quick and easy, but are immensely clever and mess with your head in a really good way.  Start with those.

And as long as we're ticking off the list of creators of nostalgic electronic music, I'll add Freescha, Casino Vs. Japan, Manitoba (caribou's original alias), Marumari, and Plone to the mix.  I haven't heard much of Plone, but the rest of them are really good.

And, completely unrelated: this is beautiful.

Looking good so far, love the colors.  I'm not too sure about the dithering on the skin, though.  I'd also remove the highlight color from the neck, too.

It's remarkably different from anything they put out before.  Check out their recent remix work; it's very similar in style to the campfire headphase.  Specifically, their remixes for Beck (Broken Drum), Boom Bip (Last Walk Around Mirror Lake), and cLOUDDEAD (Dead Dogs Two).  There are actually guitars on this album!  Also, it's more 'chill-out' than anything else they've ever done.  There are lots of half-heard distorted voices again, but the context tells me they're probably not talking about satan this time.  In terms of complexity, it's somewhere between Geogaddi and Music Has the Right to Children.  Lots of tape fuzz and some of the smoothest synths I've ever heard.  It's worth the time to hunt down Japan-only bonus track, too (it's called Macquarie Ridge).

Also, check out Caribou's The Milk of Human Kindness, I view it as kind of a companion album to The Campfire Headphase.

Also, Helm: rock on!  Have you checked out Andrew Plotkin's stuff at all?  It's great.  So is Adam Cadre's.

I'm afraid I don't understand the appeal of any of those games.

txt adventures 4eva, bitches.

Also, I got my copy of the Boards of Canada's The Campfire Headphase!  It's a good album!  I love it!  Also, it came with sweet vinyl stickers!  I love that, too!  exclamation mark!

damn, I don't know how you do it.  this is amazing.  I'd have given up long ago if I only used paint.  You'll be happy with promotion, for sure.

Also, this could stand pretty darn well on its own, without a background; having one is just icing on the cake.

Okay, I did an edit to show you what I was talking about:

I changed the colors, mostly because shading only with white and black really bothers me.

What I mainly tried to do was increase the depth of the piece.  None of the limbs in the back reach the lightest shade on the color ramp any more.  I re-aligned the legs so the torso didn't seem so long.  Some wrinkles were added to the shorts, and they now hang below his legs a little bit.  But most of all, I gave the arms a definite elbow so it's known exactly where they're bent.

I also pushed the darkest shades out of the highlighted areas (like the feet and the hair) so that they popped out a little more.

You're probably not going to like this, but I'm going to give you a couple of general crits that can be applied to most of the sprites before I can go into specifics.

A lot of these feel kind of "rubbery," by which I mean that the joints sometimes feel like they bend in more than one place (like the elbow on our right on the first sprite)  Make sure your proportions are correct, too.  sometimes it feels like the torsos are a bit too long (I'm thinking about the fourth, eighth, and ninth sprites, specifically).

Make sure you don't pillow shade, because I see a lot of it, especially on the legs.  Don't be afraid to put the highlights right next to the outline.  Also, make sure that shadows fall on the right places, so the limbs that are bent towards the viewer aren't too foreshortened.  I guess I'm looking specifically at the last sprite for this one; if the bent leg were unbent it would look a great deal longer than the unbent one.  Make the viewer know that the straight-looking leg is bent by shading the area where' it's bent under.  Also, for the poses where one half of the character is behind the other, remove all occurrences of the lightest shade.  It will do a lot to give the sprites depth, especially on Shadow III (where it will help us figure out which arm is in front of which).
