General Discussion / Re: Learning the Language
« on: April 22, 2007, 04:39:59 pm »
C# does seem nice. How would I go about learning it? Should I learn C++ first? I'm thinking of picking up a book on it, or maybe Java. Maybe both? We'll see.  :D

General Discussion / Learning the Language

Ok, so over the years I have become pretty proficient in GML (woo...) and I want to start learning a more solid/flexible creation language. I know BASIC and Visual BASIC, anything past that I am clueless on. I know a lot about how code works and all of that jazz, I just need something to work with. C++ is a very big language to learn, and I hear that Java is the best to work with nowadays. Anyone know of what I should pick up or begin learning? This is more for hobby than commercial use, I like to mess around with code for fun.

Any suggestions?

I think it would be a good idea if you touched up the old version and kept this version. Instant idle/alert positions already pixelled.  :)

I tried eliminating the mirrored look by giving him some accessories. Tremulant's edit helped a lot but I know my version needs some more work. Yes I stole the edit you made to the nose :P I have a feeling the next thing I'm going to change is the color selection, but I want to get the physical aspects down first.

Anyway, thanks for the edit it helped me alot. Enjoi  :)

Howzat?I added the other shade of green that you said, and it helped a lot I think. He doesn't look so flat. Thank you :)

I kept his stature long and lanky. I tried some shading on the eyes but I'm not sure it's working.

I was trying to strengthen my shading ability along with trying to break the left brain/right brain conflict. What it looks like, not how you think it should look. It started of from the eye and just sorta bloomed from there. It was fun  :)

This is really cool. It has that little touch that small sprites usually have, it reminds me a lot of Ultima. Make more please!

About the roman:

The shield has so much space for development! Their shields are a lot more elaborate than that.

His stance seems kind of awkward to hold such a large axe. Either make the axe smaller, or have him hold it with two hands. Barbarianize him a little too! Make him look more fierce than just standing around.

Just some ideas  :)

Make the background more sky-like. Clouds, the sun, all that stuff. Making the game more environmental will give it tons more character.

The problem is that I don't have access to those colors. It's 9 bits only, (0, 36 ,73, 109, 145, 182, 218, 255 for each of R, G and B)
Although your colors are really nice ZoSo.

I tried to up the contrast on the rocks, different?
The bkg needs revamping, true. Will work more on it.

I like this version much better. The environment seems more... lush. Seems more healthy.
