Pixel Art / New self portrait...
« on: January 11, 2008, 08:26:27 am »
im tired of my fadatar...ahem

i wanted to do something bigger to replace my fadatar, and so this was the result. Far more accurate, due to the space, and I like the colors alot more...I'll use it as my avatar when im satisfied with it.used a mirror, and what ive seen of myself in the mirror whilst wearing my jacket, as a reference.
c&c would help, as always.
26 colors...lol...i didnt really restrict myself much this time.

ive always loved these lines...
ahem
there are some stray black pixels,
his back looks .... not as detailed as the rest of him, but its not a big issue.
it doesnt look like any of the lovely orange/blue lighting is hitting him, and i think it would be all the better if he fit in more to the background..without losing readability of course.
its good, the lighting works, and the background is great ^_^ nice job, much better than my version of the lines xD

Pixel Art / Re: RPG Character Base, Side-View Woes

Since apparently you wont take anything to actually improve your art, but simply your pose, ill crit on that.

your front view portrays to me two things:
spread legs, and wide shoulders.
well...two things that stand out the most.
ahem
your sideview person, while I understand it is sideview and will look thinner, doesnt portray these things to me.
it looks like a completely different person/pose.
IF you really intend to keep the pose of the front view person(though i dont think that wise, but you are not asking for crit on it)
then i think you need to make the shoulders and legs in the sideview match those of the shoulders and legs in the front view more.
the arms also seem smaller.
even though they are different views, they are still the same amount of mass : P
hope this helped.

I think the biggest problems with your people is the lack of facial structure, and that the way that their heads are shaded make them look like their heads are coin-shaped.

smaller problems;
the person on the right's thumb was where his pinky would be O_O
theyhadnonoses-i tried showing a way that would be simple to do ^^
aside from the person on the left's hand's shading, the hands were perfect to me.
the eyebrows didn't read as eyebrows when they were the same color as the eyes.
the lips of the people made it look like they were severely de-hydrated, because they were blue o_o
thats about all ^_^
i really love the clouds on the right  :D

gamemaker's programming language is based on javascript; no?
that or C++. either way, if you start with game maker and get used to it, its a lot easier to learn than either C++ or Javascript, and you can transition into which ever one it is more similar to(i cant really remember >>) so while gamemaker has its flaws, its a good beginner program and helps if you want to move up...

aright aright i was wrong, theres no need to continue arguing about it, seeing as i was the only one who thought it wasn't pixel art.

things that use more than the pencil tool are not true pixel art. id say start over smaller and use just the pencil.
What about the line tool? Or the square tool? Or perhaps the fill bucket?
I think you're over simplifying things. :-*

eh, ya got me on that one. ive just seen so many people say that line it got stuck in my head :P
also; generally when someone uses a dithering tool, such as the built in one on gfxgale, it gets frowned upon, and the spray tool seems like just a random dither tool.

on a more helpful note: i think the moon needs to radiate some light, and think a lot of it needs to have some AA or just get a bit more smoothed out.(i.e moon, and people maybe)

two different color schemes...i dont know which i prefer.

made his club completely wooden, for god knows why, fixed some AA in places, and fixed his arm.

well, ive pretty much lost all interest in my gargoyle, for now at least, so i made this
<(looks better on black imo)
16 colors
i experimented with a second lightsource, not sure how i like it, might redo it and make it brighter or something.
C&C is always welcome and appreciated ^_^
