Job offers / Looking For a Spriter
« on: January 05, 2014, 12:35:20 am »
Hello,

I'm looking for a spriter for little bits of work here and there. If possible I'd like someone to use as a go-to guy long-term, so for that reason I'd like to see individual interest in my request. I'd rather deal with individuals rather than teams/groups of spriters.

What sort of spriter I'm looking for:
- An interest in low resolution sprites. (I'm looking at 24x24 currently)
- Can do tilesets as well as individual sprites.
- An eye for graphic styles and suggesting improvements to the visual style.
- A lover of RPG games <3 (and JRPGs)

For what:
I'm currently working on a dungeon crawler game targeted at HTML5. The graphics are simple and use a 24x24 grid. I'm not looking for someone too expensive for this as I'm just a regular student in university with a passion for game development. I can sprite to a certain degree but I don't enjoy it the majority of the time - that is why I'm looking for someone that I can pay to do it for me.

Here's a screenshot of the project that I'd like to see the sprites created/improved for and the style I'm looking at:

If you're interested, throw me an email with your rates and experience/portfolio/examples at harrkus[{at}]gmail.com
Just to clarify, I'm looking to pay a spriter for a fair price - but please keep in mind that I'm on a low budget. Payment will be made via PayPal (I'm verified).

Thanks!

Job offers / Requiring a Tileset (Closed)
« on: July 14, 2013, 04:32:17 am »
Hello,

I’m looking for someone to create a tileset for me. Each tile is 32x32 and I’m looking for a variety of tiles overall. A mix of water, sand, grass, forestry, mountains, etc… The view is 3/4 - think old-school RPG overworld style.
I’m creating maps on the fly with depth so I also require tiles to show that. Eg: Deeper (darker) water for the ocean, then clearer/brighter water as the water nears the land.

The ideal spriter should be around post-beginner as I don’t have a big budget. I’m not sure how the pricing for tiling goes, but I’d be looking at $10-$12 an hour? (or better if you can provide a fixed fee for the complete job) I’m slightly flexible around that area.

Payment will be paid with PayPal only, and only to a verified user. As this is my first time paying someone for their services on here, I’ll be happy to pay you in advanced. However, I will only pay in advanced if the right person seems reliable and has done previous paid-work (with evidence) on here. Otherwise I will send the payment after the job is done. I'll be sure to make the payment process clear before any work starts.

Please do not contact me by PM or within this thread. Instead, use my email below.
Email: harrkus@gmail.com

All offers will be considered but please provide a portfolio / previous tile work. I will be picking the right person based on their rates and previous work. More details about the task will follow should I be interested in your style.

Thank you. :)

I've found a pixel artist taking up this job, thanks to everyone who sent me an email!

Pixel Art / [WIP] Dungeon/Castle tileset
« on: May 06, 2012, 06:43:29 pm »
Me and my team are planning a RPG-ish game for android and right now I'm playing around with a dungeon/castle sort of scene.
The black outline around the player is there to stay and will be included on most things to keep with the same style. I like the cartoon effect that it gives. I have yet to apply it to the walls as I'm still working on them and that's where I want a little help.

Not sure if having the tiles darker at the top to indicate the top of the wall is a good idea, I tried a lighter shade instead of darker but I don't know :/. Anyway, any advice is welcome. :)

This is from another tileset I did, more of a facility-basement place than a dungeon. Just something to compare to be honest, to show how I expect the walls to look like around the edges.

I'll follow up with screenshots while I work on it, including any feedback taken in.

Edit: Update

Pixel Art / Enhancing Tileset
« on: January 24, 2012, 05:34:07 pm »
Well here's my current tileset, it's ugly. (24x24)

And it produces something disastrous as this: (Some things like the door have separate images as to why they're not in the tileset)

- Battle Preview

Anyway I'm stumped. The colours are really doing my head in and I've been constantly trying new methods to make it more appealing, but it just isn't working for me.
Sadly there is about 20 minutes game play using that one tileset. -.-
It's supposed to be some kind of underground experimental facility and while I have yet to add some other things in mind. I'm still struggling to select a certain style.
Preferably something like lttp with the clean minimalistic style.

I have started on a new tileset with this in mind but I still wouldn't mind getting some outside help :)
Also bearing the character size in mind, would 32x32 be better than 24x24? Or just bigger walls outside the 1 tile structure thing I have going on above? Thanks!

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Werewolf
« on: October 24, 2011, 06:49:17 pm »

Tried making the lighting more over head, not sure if I did good though.
Raised his arms a little too and made the shirt more rugged.

Though I still have the problem of the overall thing not being very clear, just can't seem to change that. :/

I kinda want the shirt to stay so I've done it down a little. Just a few tweaks:

Any tips on how I could make my werewolf look more realistic/scary? Also some features are missing (like claws) as I'm still playing around with the pose.

General Discussion / Re: iPhone Game Development

Definitely go for Android especially considering you're on windows.
Even if you don't have an Android phone you get an emulator with the SDK where you can test your applications out, plus it's not restricted by an Operating System.

I prefer Android over iPhone anyway, you can do a lot more with it and you're not tied down like you are on iPhone. (Developers point of view)

Pixel Art / Re: Help with right walking animation
« on: September 06, 2011, 11:21:42 am »
The main problem is in the last frame, since his/her right leg looks like it's  forward, as well as the left!

AND when the LEFT arm is forward, the RIGHT leg should be forward, you did the opposite.

You should make her arms move a bit more too.

And her head body (not her legs though) should move up and down when walking.

here's a great tutorial http://www.manningkrull.com/pixel_art/tutorials/walking.asp

and here's my edit

you have used a lot of colors too, but there's no need : o

EDIT:

here's a version with less colors
Wow thanks, pretty in depth. The link I'm already familiar with but I'm just trying to practice an see what things I'm missing then I can improve on that. I'm slowly getting there! :)

Oh an it's meant to be a guy, does it really look like a girl that bad?

Pixel Art / Help with right walking animation
« on: September 06, 2011, 08:54:07 am »
Okay been a while since I've been here let alone post something about the same thing I'm working on.
After a few revisions I've come out with this:

When I try it out in my game it kinda feels odd, I just can't put my finger on it. I've tried redoing the leg animation multiple times but still come out with funny odd results.
Any help on this? Thanks.
