Pixel Art / Re: Some Sprites from 100 Quests

I'm a bit confused by some of these. Is the nerd's head in a bubble? I guess it's set in space. Anyway, the head seems a bit too pink to me. And on the spy, is he holding a magic wand? These are nice looking, but I kinda wish you had posted them as animated gifs. The lizard looks really cool, but people will probably tell you do dither him.

You also used a lot of colors in this piece, when they had enough contrast they looked almost pillowshaded, especially on her dress.
That's where I got that idea. Maybe I misunderstood the comment. I'm saving Helm's dither samples and I know a guy who is a good bit better at dithering that might help me out with my ineptitude. Come to think of it, I don't think I've shown him this forum yet...

Me: "Hello, my name is Matt and I'm a pillow-shader"
Room: "Hi, Matt."

Yeah, you've got me. I don't really know anything about propper dithering... or color selection... wait, why am I even doing pixel art!? Anyway, what are some good resources for complete dither newbs?

Duh! I'm a moron. That eye is much better, but I think I see one more thing to help the face out. I made an extra dark pixel on the far eye to make it look more like she's winking. Did it work? I also did little changes here and there and tried to salvage the lighting a bit. I'm planning on a cresent moon or some sparkely star trail or something in the bg to spice it up. I'm thinking maybe widen the picture out so that I can have the trail coming from behind the broom and meandering into the background and a moon over her  farshoulder. I still need to think about it, though. Any suggestions on a good background?

Hmmm, in hindsight, I seem to have over-cel-out-ed parts of her dress (butt.) What are you talking about? Of course "over-cel-out-ed" is a word...

Pixel Art / [WIP] Witch

Well, I decided, for some unknown reason, to pixel my best friend as a witch. Hopefully she doesn't read to much into the meaning. Anyway, This is just the first edit. I threw this down in one sitting and will come back and fix it up later. Any ideas of what to do about that eye? She's not squinty-eyed, as the pixels may lead you to believe

Pixel Art / Re: Isometric Character Base
« on: February 21, 2007, 05:58:14 am »
Well, I worked on the original base a bit, made the legs suck less, and made him taller. The other one just looks too... eh, so many things wrong with that.

The walk is an ugly 4 framer (3 unique) like in FFTA. I may fix it later if the team gets on my case enough...

Ok, am I crazy to try to make one this big?

It's 8 frames. That's just one direction out of 8. That's a male base, half the characters wouldn't ever use it. Should I go smaller?

Improvement?

I think that's a bit too dark. He looks like one of those starving African children with his sides all sunken in and his ribcage showing. The face looks better, though. Maybe just ease up on the chest area.

Working on an iso base and I thought I'd get feedback (especially on the front/back.)

General Discussion / Re: Issues with GraphicsGale...
« on: February 13, 2007, 07:54:44 pm »
Just a quick update for other people using Gale: I think I know why it pulled all that on me. It seems if you save a single frame gif it will change both of those options automatically. I wanted to warn other users so they don't save a single frame with the intent of animating later (like I did.)
