Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Animated Glow Effect
« on: August 09, 2007, 10:26:02 pm »
Adarias is correct.  But personally on the edge of the stone I wouldn't make it illuminate at all (don't make it lighter but especially don't make it get darker) because it is very unlikely the light would wrap around the edge of the stone in this case, it would probably just brighten the front face of the rock.
Quote
The side of the rock should not grow lighter, as it is not hit by the glow, it should remain the same or get darker.
I'm essentially trying to say that without the "or get darker" bit which is just plain wrong.

I disagree with stefano.  I think it's meant to be more of a komodo dragon/snake then a humanoid.  I also feel the hanging of the arms/head add a nice lifting action to the "rise of Alvizzar".

Nice work.  :y:

Already showed this to you on Pixel:

Maybe someone here could get head movement to work like I wanted to try or improve/comment on it in some other way.

Actually it is.  It's just 1:1 ratio instead of 2:1.  Very uncommonly used but still isometric I think.

I feel the pants give his legs a bit of a flat instead of round look (especially the practically straight transitions between the shades below the knees).  It is a slightly more obvious problem in yosh's edit.  Perhaps round off the bottom of the brighter shades a bit?

First real attempt at a digital painting (portrait of the band, Rush):

I improved a bunch as I went (I did each person from left to right, and then came back to redo the left person's head).  There are still a lot of problems though.

yes, speaking of water....

I think it would be nice with water dripping from Kraken and a waves, lots of waves would be excellent :)

and probably make the whole thing a bit darker and the light maybe should have a more lightning yellow... I guess the lightsource is the cloudy sky and the lightnings...

very nice otherwise ;D

Pixel Art / Re: walking Barbarian...

The major problem with the head is that he turns to the left but does not do this same motion to the right (in fact there are a number of frames where his face does not turn at all).  You may want to make his head come to the point of practically facing us.  Other then that the animation is very smooth and a very barbarian like walk.

I really don't think you should be able to see the back of the cliffs like that, or even the sides. It throws of the perspective. If you look at your cave, you'll notive that huge difference.

I liked the original cliffs a lot better.
Total agreement.  I disagree with Adrian and Aleiav- no amount of shading can make an impossible perspective make sense...
Other then that amazing development and it's looking great.  Seems like you are learning a lot- keep it up.
Edit: Oh and when Aleiav says to "break the grid" he means making the tiles not square shaped so that they look a lot more realistic.  So the cliffs would be a lot more curved and natural.  Unfortunately, this would mean practically entirely rehauling your tiles...
