Pixel Art / Hyperwars Remastered

Reappearing:

Level 1:

So I made a game forever ago which has been in kind of an almost-finished limbo ever since.
I've added some pretty retarded rpg-esque upgrade system which brings the flow of the game to a screeching halt and keeps me from flat out releasing the current version.
But that is another story.

Most of its graphics are an overdesigned mess of patterns with no definition or depth when I was all like "loldetails".
Well, this has been on my list of "things to do some day maybe perhaps"-list for a while and also the one thing that got me into pixel art in the first place so I probably shouldn't leave it unfinished.

Current screenie:

HUD will probably be remade.
Background is 2 colors only, it's still 3 colors in the even linked version.
Not sure what to do with the tilesets anyway. Too noisy perhaps?

Anyway, lets get started with the first 5 enemy remakes:

Any ideas/wishes/propositions?

Old topic:

Hi guys, I've had a pixel-itch I had to scratch lately.
It has been a while.

So tonight, this is what happened:

I don't quite know what to do with it at this point besides mashing more colors into it but I'm sure there's something I am missing.
Any suggestions?

Pixel Art / [WIP] Yet Another Dragon
« on: September 15, 2009, 03:04:12 pm »
Trying to get myself back into the swing of things by drawing a dragon.
Somehow I always end up drawing those :-\
Oh well here's the current progress:

Worked on it for a couple of hours until I had no idea what else to add/fix.
I might fiddle around with the colors and some of the shading later.

If you spot an error or have a suggestion how to improve it, feel free to mention it.

Edit: okay I think I'm done, I'm still open for suggestions though.

Pixel Art / Animated explosions
« on: December 02, 2008, 01:23:13 pm »
Hi, I'm trying on making explosions look right once again.
Here's what I got so far:

I tried to go for as few frames and colors as possible because they're fairly big and 20 frames would be a bit excessive.
The few colors is a stylistical choice, I just don't want ultradetailed explosions with 16 shading tones, this should be more shape-based.
I'm happy with the sideways-explosion, although if you know of ways to improve it, shoot, but that yellow one kind of fits more into a top-down viewed game (this is for sideview) and there's something very wrong with the blue one and I can't sort out what it is :/

Oh yeah, don't suggest that metal slugish white-circle-black-circle first 2 frames.
I'm aware of that, have seen it in action and don't really want that because, honestly, I think it's kind of dumb.

Pixel Art / Gamesprites and background need improvement
« on: May 16, 2007, 02:49:47 pm »
Hello community,
I've recently started to make a little game involving a giant worm eating stuff.
The enemys should be futuristic ships (not space) which have a somewhat dirty and used look so nothing shiny and new.
Here's what I have so far:

I don't think I acheived the dirty and used look.
Everything still looks clean and new although I used 'dirty' colours like red and green to make stuff rusty but it's simply not gonna happen.
I would apreciate some pointers on how to improve it.

The house doesn't look too interesting either but I have absolutely no idea what to do about it :(
I already used a reference for it and spent way too long on getting it where it is now but i'm not pleased with what I see.
I'm not that much of an experienced background drawer, actually drawing a background is miles out of my comfort zone.
I don't like it but I want to get it done now. I can't seem to get it done myself propperly though so I need the help of someone who knows how to do things right.
Yes I mean you :)

If you want to see what the game is supposed to be like, here's a techdemo:
