Pixel Art / A pixel artist in need.
« on: February 18, 2007, 03:59:59 pm »
I have a vacation this week and I really want to improve as a pixel artist. Hopefully I can get help from you guys. Here are a few things I'm going that need some work.

I don't think the sides are very good and I need to do something with the arms in the walking animation. Are the cartoony legs far apart not cool? I think I'll go with a more realistic "style". Any idea how I could make the face look real instead of how it is.  Thank you ahead of time I really appreciate this.

What is it? Looks like a fancy way of laying out your palette.

I think the size is fine. The feet and the arms are pretty wrong though. The arms should be longer, unless he's amputee, I always thought more amputees should be in video games.
Feet don't point that way. They usually make that L shape, one foot points forward the other to the appropriate side. You should try positioning yourself like the character. If it's comfortable you to pose that way then it's probably a good pose. Probably every really talented pixel artist here and a lot of decent pixel artists here act out animations.

The brown costume needs more contrast, the green palette probably needs more contrast too.

I used paint, then iDraw3 then went back to paint and then jumped to Gale. It's no pro motion but it does the job.

Thanks AdamAtomic, how would I break up the horizontal line? I've also noticed a lot of the more "real" pixel art doesn't go from a dark green to green to light green. Is there some rule of thumb to help me with this? Am I over complicating all of this?

I made some pants and shirt color changes. I can't decide if any look good.
I think I just spent 15 minutes making the hands look worse. How do I make hands look like hands?

Feel free to be harsh with the C+C.

Pixel Art / RPG Sprite and Tileset WIP
« on: January 26, 2007, 06:00:49 am »
:D I'm working on a little project mainly to improve my pixel pushing, I'd like some advice because these are giving me a lot more trouble than I think they should. These are WIPs.

This is the sprite for a weird alieny character. You can see what I had before and what it is now.

I also need some help with tilesets. The grass looks a little off, maybe it's the color, and it took me a long time. For the most part I think it's acceptable. The cobble stone probably needs another color and the space between each stone seems ugly.
Thank you ahead of time. I really hope I can improve these with your help.

if you have trouble with anatomy then stand up and mimic the pose. Some people buy those posing dolls but people and action figure (not dolls!) work the same.

Maybe it's just me but my arms go past my waist. Almost half way between my hips and knees.

I made a pretty quick edit.

You should probably use a light purple instead of that pink you've got going on. I think it's always a good idea to have a thumbnail at 100% or 200%. Can help prevent things from looking sloppy or bad.

Wow, these are really good. I Miss Fortune came out well. Are you going to do Umbrella?
