Pixel Art / Re: [WIP][C+C] Waiting for Godot Scene

Not a very skilled pixel artist, but since no one commented in about 15 days, I'll give it a shot. :)

I thought that was a gravel/stone path, unfortunately, so I thought I'd try a more 'brown' color.
As for making the ground interesting, I was thinking just added a small plant, or moving the rock.

Here's the quick mockup I did of those, for you to look at.

I tried out an edit.

The major issue here is trying to put too much detail into your sprite.

The truth is, at this low resolution, you can't put much detail down at all, and the perspective makes it hard to suggest depth without using some kind of hacky solution.

I tried to simplify your sprite down to the essentials, bringing it so that all of the major elements support each other.
(Except the pants, but ehhh...)

I tried to add an exaggerated chest to make it obvious that she was a girl, but anything I did add looked garish and out of place, so I decided to go with a more subtle choice of changing the character to more easily show core traits.

She's now dressed in a more typical girly shirt (not jacket, sorry), and has her hair grown long (as many girls do), as well as a rather standard hairdo.

The choice of white hair at the resolution lets your eyes assume more fitting traits for the character (since the resolution is too small for little details like wrinkles and accessories), making the character seem more like an old woman than a young girl.

I'm out of time to talk about it though, so I hope I helped!

I saw this Coltraine's edit in Kamillo's thread, and could not resist trying to make a similar image. I've embed his version here:

and here is the mockup I put together in a few minutes.

I feel like I've messed up somewhere, but I can't put my finger on it. All I can think of is that it seems... empty.

It also bothers me that the dirt isn't as deep as it should be, but the edits I made to try to remedy that just looked wrong.

I made another edit with a large dirt layer though, which is close to how I think it should be, but still looks off somehow.

Pixel Art / Re: Water and underwater animation

I really like your most recent update Looaks. :)

To add to the depth, I think it would fit very nicely to add a more desaturated kelp, to imply that it's being dulled by the water, or to show more depth.

I like the surface water animation, and think it would add to the 'murky' effect if the animation was slowed down in-game.

I also think vague/blurred impressions of shapes in the background would help as well.

It's part of her orange blouse underneath white vest. Maybe I should add a turtle neck.
With the space you have to try and suggest that things are going to get pretty difficult. :/

I'm new to pixel art as well(-ish), but I'd thought I would try an edit to pronounce the shadows on the rock more prominently as an example. It went fairly well, so I'll post two pictures.

Original Edit^

A GIF showing the edits^

Hope that helps! :p

I made some stone/rock walls, probably too noticeable for a background, but whatever. :P

Background/Darker version:

EDIT: So everyone ignores my addition and then subtly doesn't include my tiles in the release. :P
Hurtful, gentlemen.

Could I just ask, what perspective is this?
^has a good point. It's hard to tell if you're looking at the tree from above, or straight on.

^agreed with most of the things up there.

There is really odd detailing on the right side of his face(the darker part) not sure if that is stubble to just irregular shading.

Deeper shadow on his neck would be great, considering his chin seems to jut forward a considerable amount.

Also there's two slits on his left eye, which looks really really odd if you look at it specifically.

I really like how you drew the fur.

You might want to cut down on the dithering a bit, it looks really noisy right now.
