I would suggest trying to base the tween frame on a more realistic movement.

You are making a the motion blur. Imagine it as just that a blur of the frames you might see in slow motion.

The arm would face downwards while going into the pocket and swing upwards and bend when removing the item.

I've made a sloppy edit here to try and show my thoughts in motion (it would need a lot of tweaking).

EDIT: I realized your 1st sprite has a bulge. bring it back!

here's a quick non-pixel art edit: i thought making the knight smaller would be better than making the lion bigger (same affect but i love the pixels laid for the lion's face). i also elongated the knight's torso's as he felt a bit squashed but dependent on what you intended it might not be right... i know some of work's are humorous and thought there might be a joke coming. can't help with the knight's leg other than to say its looks gimpy.

my thoughts:

teeth to suit the facial expression & arms that are more vine like. i didn't really like the way your hands worked - thought they needed to be more organic. i would personally go for no fingers just a vine end but that's me...

great stuff though

personally i like the simple shading of Dokozai's Arne's palette version.

However I am not sure about the dark red in (our) left ear and more so about the bottom of the legs wear the troussers seem to join together - are they too long or torn? i don't think this is a particularly good edit but;

you might find this thread interesting; http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=4502.msg55978#msg55978 i've always liked tocky's simple sprites :)

I think if I were you I'd try to ease the process by blocking in with maybe 2 or 3 shades of grey to define some volume on the faces. nice big brush...

You can either then use it as reference or work to convert it to dither patterns. It's just what I'd do to simplify the process.

Thought this might be of use (dither patterns more than anything - although you're doing grand with the cloud's shading :) )

I haven't posted any work on the forum in ages... unfortunately i haven't got any pixel i'm allowed to show but was clearing out a draw of old work and found and an unusual commission, quite different from the stuff i normally do, and thought it'd be interesting to see what people made of it here. crits would be awesome. if anyone's interested i think there is a textured version around somewhere...

&

It is the first chapter illustration/introduction illustration from a modern-fantasy novel. lots similarities to harry potter. based on Manx mythology - similar to Norse/Celtic where the style came from.

Anyway let me know what you think. There were 28 ish in total though i'm not sure how many i still have originals for...

EDIT: Added a promo image & cut down the file sizes.

DOUBLE EDIT: I'd like to make it clear I had anything to do with the website or front cover.

I'm going to just through these 2 into the mix;

Flash/actionscript = by no means a perfect language but it is superblyl documented on the internet and really very easy to use. There are loads of tutorials, even specific to gaming, available.

A pre made game engine such as Garage Games Torque engine = a fairly easy and reasonably documented head start.

Both of these suggestions are very genre specific though. What type of game are you going for?

Super butcher edit.

No reasoning or theory other than it didn't look right or comfortable to me (i think his near shoulder also looks raised which adds to the feeling of discomfort):

EDIT: i think i prefer hand 1

(an issue at the elbow joint but shows you the direction i'd go)
