Pixel Art / Black Capped Chickadee
« on: June 15, 2007, 09:57:28 am »
Taking a very short break from working on my sprite, decided to pixel a chickadee.

Far from perfect, but I don't think I really plan to do much else with it. Enjoy. :)
Love these birds, actually had one eat out of my hand a few times when I was much younger.

Edit: fixed the subject title.

Pixel Art / My first ever animation
« on: May 08, 2007, 06:29:35 pm »
yeah... it's horrible I know, go ahead & rip this bad boy apart.
->->->
 (old)                        (newest)

->->->->->

Head should be moving a bit when he walks you guys think? heh
arms are horrible I know :)
shoulders are good (I THINK)
Legs I'm not sure about
Chest, I'm not sure about... maybe it shouldn't be animated or maybe animated differently?
Not too concerned with the overall look of the sprite outide of the animation, it does need work yes, but I have alot of work ahead of me and I need to make sure I can animate decently. :)

There appears to be a bit of an error in the animation on the right side by the arm, not sure what caused those pixels there.

this was done with 4 frames. idle frame used twice to make it look a bit smoother.
Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Pixel Art / rpg mountain tileset [WIP]
« on: May 04, 2007, 12:38:12 pm »
Sorta anyways... studied the Chrono Trigger mountain/cliff tileset, tried to get a similar look & failed pretty horribly, tried a couple other things that turned out even worse as well.
So I just messed around until I came up with something that at least looked rocky...
Here's what I have at the moment:

I'm worried that it may look "man made" (rocks stacked by people to build a wall) rather than natural, and a bit unsure about how the sides look.
Ignore the crappy land tile at the top that I'll be replacing and the light grey dots on the edges at the top. the focus of this is on the bottom 2 tiles.
I'm aware that there are a couple extra pixels in height at the top, sloppy cut & paste from my tileset is all. :P

I appreciate any help I can get with this. At the very least I think this tile set could be used for something else if it cannot be used as a mountain side/cliff tileset.
I am also aware of the somewhat crappy tiling look.. still need to work on that, right now I'm focusing on the look of it rather than if it can tile or not. :)

Thanks in advance. :)

Edit: Also, thought I should note that this tileset is for an arid cool climate.

Pixel Art / hood [Finished?]
« on: April 28, 2007, 12:28:09 pm »

(original) (1st edit) (2nd edit) (final edit) (final edit +1) (final edit +2)

Have been tweaking & retweaking this thing all morning.
More or less trying to make the hood look more like cloth.

Changed up the colors to fit my tastes, gave a bit of a gradient to the top of the hood to make it feel more like there was actually a light source.
Maybe I should use more bland colors? heh
I dunno, feel free to post your thoughts on it.

edit: Am I never completely satisfied? lol

Pixel Art / Terrain tiles
« on: October 13, 2006, 09:46:20 am »
So, I suck with terrain tiles... especially grass... but just wanted some input on my latest attempt at some grass & dirt.

(2 seperate grass tiles, 2 seperate dirt tiles: tiles are 32x32)

Curious just how bad you guys think I am with this... I'm semi-satisfied with the dirt... I mean, it is just dirt right? maybe could use another shade of brown, but i dunno.
I'd like to get this down & get better if possible so I can get to work on more important & detailed art...
This IS all I have for tiles at the moment, haven't attempted sand, water, ice, snow, mountains, or any other misc terrain yet...

Anyways, have at it.

General Discussion / Wow, it's been a long time
« on: October 13, 2006, 12:16:32 am »
I'm so glad to see these forums back up & running, even if there are ALOT of old threads that are missing.
You guys help to inspire me so much... lets not have these forums go down again, ok? Thanks. :)
I'll be visiting daily, again, and hopefully once I really get back into pixeling I'll be able to share some of my work with you guys.

When the site went down I was working on some art for a friend of mine, he wanted to add some images to his webgame to make it a bit more fun:

It's not much, but it got me thinking more about my game tht I want to make... my problem mostly is that I'm not good with terrain, as you can probably tell from the image above :P
So I guess I'll be working on trying to make some terrain before I do anything else... /sigh
Again, it's good to see these forums back up, thanks to whoever brought them back!  ;D
