Pixel Art / [C+C][WIP] Old school video game cover
« on: January 19, 2012, 04:19:52 pm »
Hey guys! I'm working on a cover for a pocket-sized book of indie tabletop RPGs that are inspired by the authors' favorite video games. They requested a retro video game collage. I've settled on a rough composition that features a swordswoman and a giant titan, which is a take on Shadow of the Colossus.

I'm currently playing around with two different lighting styles, and I thought I'd stop and get some feedback:

The first style is closer to the authors original sketch, which is here:

A couple more details about the cover:
  • The cover print dimensions are 3.5" x 5", so those little sprites would be blown way up to big chunky pixels.
  • I'm limited to 3 ink colors plus the tan chipboard the cover will be printed on. I'm currently using colors picked from the printer's default color choices because that would be cheaper than custom ink colors.

I've got a lot of freedom with this project, so I'm open to comments like "change the pose entirely!" or "more/less pixels per inch!" or "new palette!".

Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#061 - Werewolf - Low Res Game Art
« on: May 17, 2011, 03:47:02 pm »
Hey folks,

I was hoping to get some feedback on my player sprite for the werewolf game I'm working on. Below are the rotations of his human form and wolf form:

I'm using Arne's palette, and I've zoomed the sprites to 2x for this post, which is how they'll render in the game. Any critiques are very appreciated!

The game is out! Where I Go At Night

Pixel Art / Three Blind Mice game project [WIP]
« on: December 21, 2010, 04:39:45 am »
Hey guys! I'm obviously new to the board, but I was hoping to get some critiques on the art I've done for a small game project of mine. Here is a screen shot that contains pretty much all the sprites in the game:

Here's are the frames in the main little mouse character's animations:

If you like, you can also check out the WIP game itself, but it's buggy and has no in-game instructions:
http://patkemp.com/stuff/ThreeBlindMice.swf
 - To play, select Time Trial or Endless.
 - Tap out a sequence of arrow key presses. When you stop pressing keys for a second or so, the mouse will pop out of the hole and move according to the keys you pressed.
 - Avoid traps, try to pick up cheese, and make sure you safely finish your movement on a new hole.

Any feedback on the sprites, palette or animations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
