No. The image has been scaled and saved as JPEG at some point.

Love this stuff. But be careful about giving background objects too much detail...the new tree may be pretty; but it now jumps out and competes for focus.

Interesting. I guess the basic principle would be something like this...

To figure out shadows; use models (any object you can find or craft that looks similar in structure) and luminate it with a flashlight or lamp.

The light in your image is coming from front-top-left for most other top-front only for the arcs will not look quite right.

If you install my Toolbox of Lua-scripts there are several options dedicated to palette reduction/optimization, f.ex.

* Palette-->Analyze & Optimize-->Median Cut
Classic and effective reduction to a desired # of colors.

* Palette-->Analyze & Optimize-->Optimize Colors
A script that identifies clusters in colorspace (redundantly similar colors) and fuses them. Adjustable strength/radius. Great for weeding out all those accidental near duplicates.

* Image-->Optimize & Remap-->Reduce (rare) cols
Processes both the image and palette to remove the least useful colors. Can reduce to a desired amount of colors (set "Removal Tolerance" to 100% and select how many colors to remove). A very effective algorithm.

Expanding an existing palette can be quite limiting, but you got a good start here. A few quick observations:

Looks like an interesting read, so I've ordered it (half the price from USA compared to Sweden!)

Couldn't resist playing with that mini stuff. Stole all your best designs and tweaked them! ;) Lottsa colors, mostly due to separate palettes for most items. Iso house! works ok me thinks, right? Character is 1 pixel too wide...didn't wanna compromise it :/
