Pixel Art / Re: Dark Souls GBC Demake
« on: April 20, 2016, 11:33:03 pm »
Just stopping in to say I really enjoyed this thread; the GBC doesn't get enough attention as a retro platform I feel, so it's nice to see some love and with such an awesome subject too.

Pixel Art Feature Chest / Re: THE CLUSTER STUDY THREAD!
« on: November 10, 2013, 09:09:19 am »
Tried to keep similar feel/pose (shouting, arms extended) and
keep a lot of that "old Ryu" feel while adding some new Ryu
features (ripped sleeves, blocky nose).

Was fairly informative, but there are a few bits that I strugged
with - the back arm (particularly the join with the body), front
foot (ankle feels strained at the moment but it felt kinda stupid
facing backwards) and joining the open clothing with the front arm,
the volume in there feels wrong at the moment.

The face took quite a while too, but conversely to the above,
I'm fairly pleased with it.

Gonna take a break, may come back to it after dinner, may not.
I quite like Arne's edit (the heels were exactly what I was thinking
the whole time)

Fun thread, either way.

Edit: Updated, fixed most of my gripes with it. I still
have no idea why he's wearing these weird ballet flats for
fighting but that's what the original sprite says, so whatever.

@rikfuzz: nice  ;D though the thighs are a bit undefined for their size compared to the arms, especially the front one which comes off as quite fatty up top, intentional? Using the pink as a buffer in there is a very good move I think.

Here's as far as I got in 30min, not happy with the front shoulder or the far leg, really. could probably shave a pixel off the eye. Didn't like the brown pointy shoes, or how dickless his crotch was in the original.

@Conceit: good inspiration, but I think your final sprite is godawful  :( Your intermediate one is much better.

Cheers FRAWG, the AA is neat and the colours are nice and grungey, awesome :)

Thanks for the extra gift lizard, I'll have to sort you out with something in the coming weeks!

Not a problem Maru, glad you like it, sorry for the lack of refinement on the girl and some of the outline and background :<

Merry Christmas everyone, and happy new year for the days to come!

General Discussion / Re: Need tablet pc: good, the bad and the ugly?

I'll have a look at it, even being able to tap to undo, zoom in/out, swap to colour picker and back etc would be handy. Thanks for the link!
The keyboard remote also looks good as it'd allow me to just bind stuff to its input, though it'd impede holding the tablet like a sketchbook probably. I'll see if the software alternative works first but it looks nifty and jakten said he got good use of his.

Yeah I got the TC4400 and it's nice. The fact that it served as a lowend laptop upgrade as well sweetened the deal. I'm not sure if it'll become my primary pixelling device but it's certainly nice to be able to draw in bed before sleeping, haha.

I'm liking my little tablet a lot, for the aforementioned ability to work wherever but also just because it kicks the crap out of a tablet running some portable OS. Being able to run real programs is a major plus over an iPad or whatever imho.

The few bad things I need to sort out:
  • The tablet driver stops sending pressure info if the screen is disabled (for example, if I close the lid for 5 mins) restarting fixes this. PITA
  • I can't get the quick buttons on the side of it to do much, need to find some drivers for them I think.
  • I don't have a quick radial menu working - if anyone has suggestions for a menu that I could bind macros to that would be great. Having to keep the screen just a little bit open so I can mash hotkeys blindly is a bit of a pain ;)
I'll keep fiddling but it seems pretty useful as is and will be very good for taking a trip overseas soon while still working.

So in.

Turn-ons: Vegetation, Robots, Wood finish, Game art, High saturation, lo-res high-detail.
Turn-offs: Excessive Gore, meme based humour.

Note: I'm in the southern hemisphere therefore christmas isn't snowy.

Feel free to roll out anything not on those lists btw, as it seems like that might be a bit of a creative box.

Looks excellent, guys, I might end up playing this over summer when I have access to my brother's DS. Until then I'll just oogle the tiles ::)
