Pixel Art / Re: I'm still obsessed with ponies. C+C

I'm not quite sure what that pony mark(or whatever it's called) is supposed to be. Just a silver smiley face? It would make sense for it to be a cloud(with a silver lining, of course) to coincide with the saying it gets it's name from.

About "the other side" stairs... How will you know if they're going up or down?

I think you went a little overboard with the contrast, but I get the idea.
Edit:

I don't think it was my colors(though I did mess with them a little), so much as me using them inefficiently.
Removed the action lines. They served no real purpose.
Changed the mouth to my darkest color, but pushed it a little green so it wouldn't look out of place in his mouth. I left it in the same ramp, though, since I'm still using it as a black.
Also, added another shade of grey, but It's the same shade as the background, so I just left a hole in the ramp to denote that.
I feel like this one is way better than my last try. You have been most helpful, Mush.

Another edit:

I have made an attempt to remove the frisbee shading and replace it with sphere shading. But I'm afraid it looks like he's got face paint on now.
I changed the boundary between red's teeth and green so it looks like red's doing more than just resting his teeth on green.
I added an extra shade of red and tried to apply it in a manner that doesn't make me look like a doofus. Was I successful?

And @StaticSails: The inside of green's mouth is light for no greater reason than I have no idea what I want his mouth to look like. I think I'll start messing with that next.

@Mush: I understand what you're saying, but green's face is so busy I don't know where to put any more shading.
@TheChannel: I changed the shadows around green's eyes, but your bite seems a little too violent. I'm going for more of a gnawing. My fault though, I did name the thread Red bites Green.
@StaticSails: Those eyes are much better than mine. *yoink* But I don't want green to look like he's in pain; just uncomfortable and alarmed.
Here's my edit:

Things I changed:
implemented TheChannel's shading on green's eyes
changed the wrinkles on green's head(I'm afraid they might look more like cracks; they're supposed to be kinda stretch-ish)
changed red's eyes to look more like StaticSails's edit. also rearranged the face a little
changed red's teeth.
changed the darkest and lightest red colors(I think I still need to mess with the other colors some, but this is what I have for now.)

I'm afraid I might have lost some of the original crazyness I was going for with red. If I have enough fun with this I might animate it.

Pixel Art / Red bites Green[C+C appreciated]

I was lurking around the forums and saw this.
Red/Green is generally not a good idea for AA because they are complimentary, so they "bite" each other somewhat. That is why the greys work so well, they are neutral.

Also you could use some of the green to AA the outer circle a bit more.
The part about red and green "biting" formed a weird image in my head.

The original plan was for Green to also be biting Red's arm, but I love how distressed it looks, so I'm keeping it.
Oh, and I love getting better at pixeling, so any C+C is greatly appreciated.

Tourist, that post just made my day. I am SUPER indecisive when it comes to pretty much anything, so those generators are just what I needed to jump-start my imagination.
Thanks a TON.  :yay:

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] A simple building
« on: March 01, 2011, 02:15:45 am »
I'm kinda new myself, but I did an edit to show you what I saw. This is my first edit, actually!  :D

The first thing I noticed was that your roof tiles are straight up and down, while the rest of your building is diagonal, so I changed them around a little to fit the perspective. With my edit, your brightest blue got a bit too intense, so I toned it down a little. My tiles weren't the correct width for the two roofs on the right, but you get the idea. Also, near the peak got tricky, but if you google "roof tile", you can see a fancy overhang thing they use for angles, so you can probably put in one of those.
Another thing was that there were cracks(?) in the walls in some places, but not in the triangular areas between the roof and planks, so I reused some of your existing cracks up there so it didn't look like those high areas were unfairly maintained.
I did do a little bit of shading, but I couldn't see any particular light source, so It was mostly just the wood under the roof overhang.
I did some other small edits where the wooden parts are concerned, as well. For example, I changed the bottoms where they would connect to the ground to try and add more depth, and, since I felt that the wood should stick out from the wall a little, I brought some walls in a pixel. I also repositioned the black lines separating some of the planks because they didn't "feel" quite right to me.
Other than that, you should probably choose a light source to base shading on, and, while I don't know much about banding(when it's appropriate, etc.), you might want to ask someone who does about that.
Anyways, keep it up, and if I gave any bad advice, hopefully one of the better pixellers will step in and correct me; I still don't quite know what I'm doing, but I have read some C&C, so I sort of have a basis for my edits.  ;)

Pixel Art / Re: Bard Game? [WIP] [C&C Appreciated]
« on: February 27, 2011, 10:30:03 pm »
What the Cabbage!? :o It's already been done??!  :'( Although I should hope the gameplay I'm seeing in my head differs greatly from whatever gameplay that entails. And actually, the pants were going to be brown, but then the boots got pretty tricky being a similar color, so blue it was. And since I envisioned myself playing the bard, his other color became my favorite: green. The chainmail vest was going to be a shirt, but the sleeves tossed me a curveball, so chainmail vest it was. And the lute: well, it's a lute. It's a pretty traditional bard instrument, and while he COULD play something else, I think the lute is the most stereotypically recognizeable Bard instrument. Although it is REALLY coincidental that they're so similar... I may have to find those games so I can see what they're like.

Pixel Art / Bard Game? [WIP] [C&C Appreciated]
« on: February 27, 2011, 07:06:28 pm »
I was thinking about DDO(my favorite class in this is Bard so far) when I had a nifty idea. Basically it's a game where you play as a Bard, who goes dungeon delving alone or (preferably) with a group of adventurers. Perhaps there would be a multiplayer where someone played as a Warrior, Rogue, etc., but that is neither here nor there. Anyway, after having this idea, I have pixeled a little bard. I'm still a newb, though, so it doesn't look quite right:

The main thing I see is that his lute looks a bit too big. Also, I probably used a super generic chainmail pattern, but that's all I could think of for a sprite of this size.
As a side note, I don't have the knowledge necessary to program any kind of game right now, but I think it would be a fun project once I do. I'll probably start on some other characters(as well as animating Bard) once I know how to improve this guy, so I don't mess up in the same place twice.
Thanks in advance!

Edit: I have a rough draft of the warrior now, too:

The sword wanted to blend in with his armor too much, so I pushed the armor blue and the sword/shield tan. The sword still obscures his face(helmet) a lot, which irks me, but if I make it shorter he won't have the range I want.  :(

Edit(again): I now have a healer class (don't know what I'm gonna call it)

My main problem with him is that I can't see his implement. I guess I'll find a way around that later.
