General Discussion / Re: Can your parents draw and how is your eyesight?
« on: December 21, 2006, 11:45:57 am »
My folks can't draw much at all.  Terrible, I mean really, really terrible.  My sister was getting pretty good for a while.  She did a surprisingly almost realistic sketch of Michael Keaton's Batman years back.  She ain't drawn anything in years though.  Too busy with job and a kid and pubs and all that.

And my eyesight was messed up by a lousy optician who made me wear glasses for 13 years when apparently I never needed them in the first place, and had them ruining my vision.  According to the report several other kids back then also had the same thing happen by the same optician.  I quit wearing them when I started college all them years ago and my eyesights been steadily improving ever since.  Will need something for when I finally afford driving lessons but for everything else my eyesight is now fine.

Ok, now I know what some of you are saying about her run not looking "ninja-like". The idea is that she's not really suppose to look like she's running. It's more of a jog. Like, I was originally going to have her just walk, but felt that wouldn't work. And doing that high-speed ninja run you all are suggesting just looks too fast for me. I don't want her blazing across the screen. A jogging pace is much more preferable to me.

I been there.  Done a couple running tests before when making games and realised when the characters ran, to have them play the animation at proper speed, they'd actually move across the screen too fast for the required gameplay.  That's a reason why the lil guy in my signature actually has a more strong, determined stride than a run, especially since it's meant for a 22 year old computer which ain't really known for super smooth and super fast together.

Thanks.  Looking at it now with less tired eyes I think maybe I overdid the shiny on it, as someones pointed out it looks almost cybernetic.  Friend of mine said the face and general 'cyber' shading to it reminds him of the regenerated Jason Voorhees in the movie Jason X.  It looks a bit noisier than the smoother looking original too.  Anyways it was good practice for a project I'm getting back to next year which actually does have a graphic style thats sorta cyberdemony.

Sorry if this is late.  I ain't been around much and only just seen this topic.

Bit out of practice but I attempted to do the Beast.  Wanted to just chunkify him up a bit.  It ain't great but I reckon I'm done with it.  Been really impressed with some of the pieces here.

Edit: Removed transparency as I didn't like how it looked against this forum color.

Actually it far more reminds me of a skinny Torquemada from the Nemesis The Warlock comic books than that bad guy from Silent Hill.  Pyramid Head's uh, pyramid helmet is actually way, way bigger (and I actually always found him to look pretty stupid to be honest).  Really liking how this is progressing.

on Mac OS X the image is blurred automatically in safari.  perhaps - you can save it as a gif at that size rather than making it big with html.

Ugh, that's a pain in the ass.  Felt sorta proud just learning how to resize pics in the html.  Does it blur when using zoom in things like on this forum?  And does Safari have a zoom function like the Firefox extension and does it blur with that too?

Well, I was gonna say 'who cares about Mac users', but I decided against it. :P
That sounds pretty awesome. Care to share any more information? If you were to rush and finish, you could probably enter it in the Autofire contest at Shmup-dev. Providing it has autofire.

Then it's already unable to be entered, as if I put autofire in it I don't think you'd be able to charge up the weapons anymore and I really like charging up shots.

This looks great and I love low color work like this.  The only thing really bugging me so far (apart from the jumping which Faceless already mentioned) is that running.  Something about the legs bothers me.  To me it looks like the front leg shrinks in length when it's at its highest.

But saying that my eyes are kinda sore right now anyway so it's hard to examine it zoomed in without getting a headache.

Just a lil note to anyone who had been wondering about my old site (I notice st0ven's site still had the link to my dead at the top of his list), I should have a new site up soon but the focus is a bit different now.  The old one was just a quickly done piece of crap intended just so I had somewhere to upload and display my pixels and crap.  The new one will have various sections where the pixel art is just one of those.  The main new section is games I've been making.  None which are finished yet, but the current project I'm focusing on which is a NES style shooter (complete with actual NSF format tunes written by a friend of mine) will be available when I launch the new site.

Anyways point is, if there's anyone else like st0ven who still has a link button for my old site and wishes to update the link the new address is http://amon.houseofninzha.co.uk/

Currently theres just a place holder right there, which ain't much but it beats a dead link...  I guess

I dunno...

Am hungry.
