What I', seeing with these explosions looks more like a kaleidoscope after the initial blast. That's okay for the earlier stages, but I think it should move faster/differently once almost all of the greys are gone. I personally like the first explosion the most, though it does need some reworking to smoothen it, the wispiness of the smoke blowing away is so fun to watch.

The way you shaded it makes the chest look like a big bent bronze sheet. You could do some interesting stuff from that starting point...

The face looks good, but the back of the head lacks depth. One more shadow tone would really help there.

Something that bugs me about this is how the text goes from thick vertical bits to pixel-perfect to a bit over 1px diagonal style. I antialiased the bits I thought needed it to show you what I'd do to improve that.

The problem I see is that the hue shift seems to stand alone, without the help of a value shift as well. Darken up that purple, in other words.

The bush looks to be more of a tropical plant than one to grow out of a cliff. Maybe make it something a bit less leaf and a bit more stem?

I love the rocks and how they have such well-defined, yet not harsh sides.

The aaing makes it look a lot cleaner, but the way you aa parts as straight lines, not curves, along with the shading used on the hat leads to the perseption of the hat being a faceted shape.

By 'ramp' he means color ramp, or a part of the palette used for shading objects of a single color.

I think the palette needs to be made more realistic; either go for full red hair to go with the style or make it a less saturated and darker brown to go with a realistic style. The hat could use to be shaded better to convey its shape; www.spriteart.com has a good tutorial for lighting a sphere that could be stretched to apply to the hat and little yellow part of it as well.

I personally think the problem with the effect is the leaves are stilll green as they fly up--in most applications it's a very light color almost indistinguishable from white. Try that and it might decrease the leaves' apparent weight.

Out of curiosity, what kind of animal is it eating? The legs look like a rabbit but it's hard to tell.

Though kitties>puppies, dogs>cats remains true. At least, the non-ugly breeds of dog.

For being finished, it lacks a lot of polish. I suggest adding more highlights and some darker shadow tones as well as antialiasing some more of the areas that don't have it.  Something I noticed is thet you have some antialiasing on the 45-degree part of some lines, particularly in the shoulder, and you shouldn't antialias those as they are smoother and better looking wihtout it.
I suggest reading up on antialiasing while you're at it; the aa color should go about halfway down the line it's antialiasing, but on the hat and various other areas it's a single pixel, leading to jagginess.

You've got a really nice style going here, very clean and smooth, but I think you went a bit too far into increasing the saturation of the tone for the rooftops, right now it looks very tinted and I think a bit more of a whitish color for that would make it appear more natural.
