Pixel Art / [WIP] Profile
« on: June 20, 2007, 03:45:06 pm »
Trying to get back into pixel art after not doing anything for six months.

A Profile shot of a guy.

I used this as a reference, not for shaping but shading.
I tried to mimic Terley's shading style in terms of color and dithering, though I believe mine is at best a poor imitation.

Regardless, I'd like any help I could get.

I have about ten saves as I was working through this. If someone desires to see them.
I also have this reference image.
I think I made her a bit too wide, and my love for this pallete is quickly fading, but I also believe that it's coming along fairly well.

What do you say? How and where can I improve this?

The lines need to be smoothed, there are quite a few unnecessary jumps of several pixels.
On the lighter part of his cap the dark blue could be used to ease the transition between outline and lighter blue.
The same could be done for the skin.

I would also recommend making the background transparent, or AA-ing the outline.

I tried to fix what was pointed out.
I added two colors, removed one.

I am absolutely certain that that is false.
Some people are more genetically predisposed to having "abs" but this does not entail them actually possessing them. When someone is said to have abs, it implies that they have significant muscular strength and a lack of "belly fat".  All humans(Of a certain gender at least) have identical muscle structures unless altered by some deformity.
In the case of the abdominal muscles, it looks a bit like this.

I have issues with the cheek, neck, and ear.

Any help anywhere is appreciated.

Some lines I've put together. Inspired by what Terley is working on currently.
Anything I should fix before coloring?

I don't see anything wrong with this. Clearly the player is spriting off causing the straightness of the body. I think thats what he meant. Another suggestion id say is turn his head sideways, it would be weird to see a player headbutt someone in the stomach. One last thing, curl his right leg a bit more so it looks like hes in full air. With a straight leg makes it seem like hes still on the ground.

Actually he's want his head there. Not in the stomach but between his arm and chest. If you place your helmet on the ball during the tackle, you're much more likely to cause a fumble.
