Also in the vein of what Draco said: what parts specifically do you not like about what you have now? If there's more wrong than right (and haven't we all been there, hahaha) what do you like about what you have already?

Not pixel-related, but: that's not a hijab, it's a burqa. :3

Well, the character in Journey both isn't human (probably?) and has a hood and scarf obscuring their features. That character there has a much shorter/lower face. It's not so much that there's no features, but that there's no features despite the fact that there's room for them.

I think the sprite is hugely improved.  :y:

Here's some more ideas to consider:

  • That's a lot of anti-aliasing.
  • Maybe cut down on that anti-aliasing, pal.
  • You can click on a picture on this forum to zoom into it, there's no need to blow it up beforehand.

Edit:

  • Keep an eye on your colors! There are a bunch of duplicates in this. I removed more than a dozen colors.
  • Everything is pillow-shaded! Decide on a light source and then you can shade more easily! I picked the top left.
  • I changed the purple jewel to blue to make it more visible but ymmv.
  • You don't need to include a zoomed version! You can zoom in on pictures in this forum just by clicking on them. :D

Hope it helps~

I vote neck. I also vote ears. Ears do amazing things toward making a sprite look human. These colors are weird because I just copy+pasted straight into GraphicsGale and then guesstimated so

You could make the neck bigger or smaller but I personally wouldn't put such a cute chibi face on a big buff cheeto puff body. Your mileage may vary.

The boundary between her hair and face is really indistinct, and her face seems really empty. There's plenty of space there for more features, but there are none. Some of your colors really run together -- don't be afraid to push up the contrast! Anyway, this is far from perfect but maybe it will give you some ideas~

I like your run and idle animations! The blocking one just looks like she's posing with the shield though.

It seems like people gave you a lot of good edits to work with, but I wanted to talk about why your original wasn't really working out so here you go! Plus a bonus doodle because I sat on this for a million years until it was barely relevant anymore. ;_; My edit isn't very polished but I hope you can take something useful away from it!
