General Discussion / polishing photo art
« on: May 05, 2011, 08:54:58 pm »
Hi, everyone. I posted here, since this is off-topic, but I do need help figuring this out. It's graphics related.

I have been looking at hidden object games recently. Such as those found at bigfishgames.com.

Many of the games use very high quality images that look like they were polished digital photos. Some of course use custom made artwork.

My question is this. Can someone point to a tutorial or perhaps a howto on creating art like that from photographs using photoshop maybe. Or like a making of article? I know, there are various skills in question here, so it's a matter of being good with the software you use, but perhaps someone experienced, can nail it down to maybe a half dozen specific areas to study, to get that done.

Some of the games are so incredibly vibrant, that the first thing that popped into my mind was pixel art. It's far from being pixel art, but if you appreciate the fine crisp visuals that pixel art provide, you know what I mean. Polishing digital photographs to such detail is really great. Also if you have personal input on this or other suggestions, please note them. I am exploring all kinds of possibilities with digital art. Almost forgot, if you know of any where is waldo like pixel art pictures, please link them. Or any pixel art games with hidden object themes.

General Discussion / Large squares in photoshop when zoomed in question
« on: September 04, 2010, 09:22:40 pm »
I created an image at 128x128 and zoomed in 1600%. This leaves an excellent level to work at, since I have a second image that is zoomed out where I can see the actual size. However, even when zoomed in, I might want to place large blocks, for example 10x10 square.
Is there an easy way to do this? I have little experience with brushes, so if that's the answer, could someone post a few steps on how to set that up? I am using Photoshop CS.

General Discussion / save for web settings in photoshop cs
« on: September 04, 2010, 08:16:14 pm »
Could someone post the best lossless settings for the save for web dialog box in Photoshop CS?

For gif and for png.

Also, when changing colors from 256 to 32 in gif settings, the colors disappear from the color table. Does this alter the original colors I chose? In the original 256 color selection I have 7 colors including black and white in the color table. I am learning to setup my color swatch for now. Help appreciated.

General Discussion / Pixel Fonts

I would like to design my own pixel font. Can someone recommend excellent software for this. If you have additional information, such as the file format that would be best and other things I might not think of as a beginner when it comes to fonts, please let me know.

General Discussion / Re: How do I contact the site administrator

Hehe, fair enough. I am looking for info on the site layout here. I am interested in working on my own site and I figured that's too far off-topic and maybe rude, so I wanted to ask in private.

General Discussion / How do I contact the site administrator

Hi, I have a little trouble finding the email address for a site admin. I have some private questions that I would like to ask outside the forums. Could someone please post a contact email or tell me which user to send a private message to? Thank you.

Ok, I think that answers it. So when I am actually ready to go through with this, it should be fine to post in the Job Offers. Thanks.

General Discussion / Is ProMotion still supported?
« on: August 30, 2010, 08:31:02 am »
After going to cosmigo.com, promotion 5 is listed. After following the link, the downloadable version is 6, after looking at the about box, the copyright notice on the software is up to 2008. Is the software still being updated? Do you still have to pay to get a full version? If anyone knows how to get in touch with the developers, please let me know, or if you have info on the software please explain what is going on with it.

No, the rules clearly state, that unless it's a paid Job Offer, it should not be posted. Of course I intend to pay, but not as a retainer, but for completed work.

General Discussion / Someone please tell me how to post this request

I could not find any instructions on how to make the following request.

I would like to have a custom pixel art icon set created. An icon pack if you will. My requirements are very simple, I would ask to purchase a complete pack and in addition a very small pixel art logo. I am not interested in time/pay rates, but in a specific fee purchase.
I would of course give a list of what the icon definitions are, but the creative choice is to the pixel artist. There are so many price ranges and sizes out there, that it's too difficult to figure out how these are priced. This is not a computer icon set I am looking for, but more a category icon set, that I would use on my website.

Please let me know how and where I can post this.
