You're going for dynamic, but this is squashed-in/very long focal length. In general the total opposite of that. There's more than one solution to this problem (actually multiple problems) but your last ref is a big clue. Look how forcing the perspective makes the hand jump out, and a whole lotta other things that bring up the contrast overall.
I'm also seeing in the refs contrast in the values (your values are flat) and the shapes (not strong silhouette on this one. Circles back into squashed perspective.)
Also look into lines of action, where this has weak/no line of action. IDK where that pose is going. Doesn't communicate.

Good job on the style. Seen it before, but it's clean, mostly well done. Some inconsistent stuff there, like the flat pine trees in the environment pic. Some of the colors you can take further. I'm thinking mostly value adjustments, but a lot of games in this style get away with funky schemes. Can't make an edit here with the image upscaling.

The deer's spazzing out :lol: Recommend looking up some good four-legged walks/gallop as reference.

It has a pretty weak pulse but when I see a project going for this long on pixelation I'm reminded of what an awesome place it is/was.
Finally getting into wing commander now :crazy:
I want to know how much the underlying tech/indexing/whatever has been updated for this since the release of the old thread where parts of those methods were exposed, or if it's the same stuff, just a lot of asset and ramp tweaking.
Lookin sexy, nothing else to say, just keep it up.

I don't know how much you've stuck to ref but it looks like you're pushing yourself with the perspective of these poses now. Always cool to see that kind of progress.

Look at putting more variation in your ramps (look up hue-shifting), and either break up the outlines or AA them

The feet and hands kind of look like boxes, try sketching out more positions for the fingers and looking up anatomical reference

I don't know how you're gonna finish/AA the staircase :huh: Try breaking down the wood grain.
