Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Retro sci-fi computer thing

The monitors need a sheen to them, a little gloss or reflection to give them roundness. Flat-shaded, they stand out.

And, not a pixel crit but more structural, I would expect the space above the three monitors to be protruding, like an old school arcade cabinet. I would bring it out and down, obeying the perspective, and add a little shadowing underneath.

It actually looks a lot like something I've pixelled before, only better. I like blinky things.

I Love the Idea of The palette-swappable characters ...

It was a lot of learning for a meagre amount of code :) But it works and its really easy for the end user to add different palette swaps for their character.

Maybe Bruce's hair should be a little bigger/popping off the top of his head  ...

I actually tried that before! It wasnt all that necessary and i couldnt get it to look right anyway. I gave away all my art related to this stuff (including flash code) about two years ago, no strings attached. One guy took it, but I dont know if he ever finished anything.

The clouds look decent. If they move along slowly with parallax scrolling, they won't look half bad. The cross section of the soil needs work. Simply googling "cross section soil" comes up with plenty of visual references I'd personally use to draw inspiration from.

I actually think you should ditch pixel art for this concept. If everything is dynamically growing and organic, you should go with something computer generated - like this:

You can easily visualize how this technique could be used for your growing branches, roots, and grass.

...Birds don't just flap their wings, they almost 'cup' the air, giving them the push they need...

That's an excellent observation (with the animated example). I'm keeping it in mind.
Aside from stiffness, I was trying to pinpoint what was wrong with the animation - and that's it. It's beautifully fluid though.

The proportions are off.  The torso is too long and the legs are too short.  To make up for the pixels used in the oversized head, either shrink the torso (keeping the legs proportionate to the entire figure size) or scale the entire body down (keeping legs and torso proportionate to each other).

That's what hit me when I first saw the sprite. Porportion off. Torso need shortening. Legs need elongating. Boobs need boobulating. I do like the shading and colours you've used though.

I'm jealous of these pixel games I see people working on here and at pixeljoint. My most recent objects of jealousy are:

So I decided to break out my old laptop and brush up my pixel skills. This is a Bruce Lee character based on a bunch of unfinished sprites I had laying around begging to be used in a game. C+C or edits are welcome!

And below is a title shot of the flash game (based on the same design) I'm procrastinating with while avoiding math classes and work. Although it pretty much just runs the title screen at the moment, I've coded the ability to use dynamically palette-swapped custom characters by loading your own custom sprite sheet :)

The masking works great. I like it!

Being consumed by darkness kinda looks like being consumed by bats though.  I would expect being consumed by darkness to be dark shadowy hands reaching out and pulling me into the shadows, kinda like in the movie "Ghost" with Patrick Swayze.

And I agree. the visual LCD/Printer post-processing is unnecessary, except to include as a nice gimmick in the options perhaps.
