The updated one is cool!
How about moving the bull out of the center a little? Just some pixels to the right maybe ...?

Sorry ... I'll try to be more clear:

And this is an image of marble madnes uses similar tiles etc..:
http://www.teaser.fr/~amajorel/marble/marble-all.png

Does it really use similar tiles? Take a look at 1. and 2. in the following image:

If it was like your tile engine it would look like 2. ... but it looks like 1. in the screenshot.
So I'd suggest:
take a look at tutorials about isometric engines and write it so that you are able to create scenes like in the top-left corner.
This tutorial is a good example:
http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article738.asp

Plus there are shadows in the screenshots so maybe that game isn't even tile based.
Maybe it is actual 3d just rendered like a tile-based game!?
Your scene would probably be more readable with shadows as well.
It is a really sloppy mockup in the bottom-right corner ... all messed up but I hope it gets the point across.

Why do you use cubes as blocks like that? Probably that's why most iso-engines use half the height for one block.
Maybe use a different ratio ... for example a 3:4 if you want a unique feel.

Pixel Art / Klinsmann Stamp

Here's another WIP stamp. I used reference images for this.

My huge problem is that I can't spot flaws in the images I am working on.
I know that mirroring the image helps a little ...
but there is always something really irritating left that I don't spot until after I rediscover the piece someday.

The hair is not quite done yet. Are there any other areas that need some work ... or things that bother you?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think AndyT meant "price."

Sounds like fun ... and cool site design.

Some open questions ... maybe it's just me being stupid though:

- I was kinda disappointed that there is a "theme of collection". Kinda limiting. Will it change? If it does: how often?
- I don't see any font names listed anywhere.
- What does authorized mean in this context: "multiple submissions are authorized"?
- Where will the prize be placed? Would be a shame if it covered anything important ...

Great update! Can't wait to see how this evolves. You are not going to stop working on this after the finals, are you?

Tried something ... not sure what to think about it. IMO while the waist up area read jumping the legs read standing.
Guess some more tension in the body might help. That is what I tried. I didn't clean it up after moving and rotating parts ...
it is just supposed to show what I had in mind.
I think there might be a perspective issue with his left leg ... maybe it is shown from the side too much.
Tried something

The left one is the original image btw.

A lot of great art here! I especially love those vector based illustrations for some reason.
Here is some of my stuff ...

Gimp/mouse (used reference for the 2nd)

Pencil, also from reference images

Those might seem rushed ... but that is actually the best I can do.

Pretty cool so far. Are you French? If so congrats from Germany.

If I'd change anything I'd take away some contrast from the pants. The buldge there really grabs the attention in an annoying way somehow  :P.
I think there should be a smaller value/hue range for the legs as well.

... is he supposeed to look as if he's jumping btw.? The pose kinda reads "standing".
