General Discussion / Re: Any advice would be great.
« on: September 02, 2018, 07:37:49 pm »
Hi Tommy! I'm tiny, pleasure to meet you! Glad you have decided this and seem serious about it

I am fairly new to the pixel art community. The best advice I could give you is to be passionate.

Being passionate means being determined not only to learn something but to perfect it, and pixel art isn't the easiest thing if you want to create something original and fantastic. It also means picking yourself back up even when you go through a bunch of shading and lighting fails (talking about myself :)).

Pursue your dreams and make them come true.

You should work on a portfolio for people to admire your skills as a pixel artist and post them in the Portfolio section of the forums.
Be open to commissions, and practice practice practice! :)
Start a Twitter as well, to open up more opportunities of networking.

You got this! Don't give up!
If you need anything PM me

Pixel Art / Re: [CC] An orc and a mercenary
« on: August 31, 2018, 11:26:50 pm »
Hi guys,
I've been working on these two characters (enemies for a game idea)

Any advice or comment that helps me improve them is appreciated

Which version of the orcs do you like the most? ???
thanks!
 :)

The orcs are fantastic, if you wanted a more realistic darker approach to your game you could use the darker orc. Because it seems more worn from working and tougher look/demeanor.

The brighter green orc seems less tainted and worn out from working hard.

Or you could use each one depending on the time of day in the game/background? Just a suggestion, love your style

General Discussion / Re: Best application to use for pixel art

I feel itís worth mentioning that GraphicsGale and the old version of Pyxel Edit are free, in case money is an issue. In the end, it comes down to your personal needs and preferences. I switch between Photoshop, Pyxel Edit, Graphics Gale, and Aseprite depending on what Iím working on (still images, tilesets, animations).
Thanks for that! I appreciate it. Would you say that Aseprite could be used for larger scale creations? Portraits or other things? I'm highly considering Aseprite because of it's simplicity, but I feel like simplicity is also a flaw. It seems super reliable and nice to work with.

What application should I use for pixel art? I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the different applications, I was wondering what everyone else uses.
Currently I've been using the website Pixilart.com, but I'm finding myself away from home often and Pixilart requires internet to save your work.

Pixel Art / Critique my Cat Animation
« on: August 26, 2018, 05:37:43 pm »

This is an action the cat does before jumping or pouncing onto something.
The cat will be running around on the street and following the player, how can I make it more lifelike?

I've been trying to improve my pixel art and animation, I just started about a week ago. This is for a game I'm working on and this little cat is just part of the environment, I was wondering if there was any way I could improve the art style, shading, animation, etc.?
Tutorials, videos, your work, anything would be greatly appreciated :)

General Discussion / Re: Good way to animate a scene?

There are plenty of pixel art tutorials on animation. I've been studying and training myself with the use of
saint11's tutorials regarding animation. I personally love his style and he has devoted himself to helping others learn pixel art through his patron.

I recommend using Hexels for anything if you have an extra $50.
I've been using Pixilart, but once I get my paycheck I'm using Hexels  :y:
