Pixel Art / Re: knight in the mountens

the idea is that he lay down his armour, you see the sword already put in the snow, he isn't wearing it at the moment. in his left hand he is holding a 'map' and in his right hand he isn't holding anything.

that was the idea  :-[

Oh okay I understand now. Hmm. From that angle it's going to be hard to show he's holding a map, since it's a view from behind. Might be easier if you put the map in his right hand, like him holding a piece of paper or something.

So the sword is sticking out of the ground on the left side then? I would straighten the blade maybe, so it is more identifiable. The hilt of the sword isn't lined up with the blade (assuming it's a straight sword and not a curved sword like a scimiitar). I was having troubles distinguishing the sword from the background. I would try making it stand out from the background by making the hilt a little larger maybe.

I like the idea though. The cliff is coming along nicely. Should turn out great in the end.

Edit - Looking at the original rough draft it does appear the sword should be curved. That works, but you need to smooth out the curved blade a bit, probably make it a bit longer too.

Pixel Art / Re: Balloon Fight (remake)

Tried a re-design.
Not sure if I like it though, even though I think the new balloon is better.

Yeah I don't like this particular re-design of the character. Too Master Chief-esque, doesn't seem to really fit. Maybe try giving him a bigger head for a cartoony look? Just a thought. I like the original design of the character in the pic of him pumping up the balloon. Maybe work with that one and see what you come up with.

Pixel Art / Re: Platformer Sprite needs improvement

Here is a sprite I have been recently working on :D

I don't know why, but to me it seems that the perspective is fucked up for some parts :x

With the angle of the head, it is almost a 3/4 overhead perspective. Is that what you are doing with this sprite? Or is it another sprite for the platformer?

So I'm assuming you're abandoning the idea of the shield being on his left? I'm trying to make out what you have decided to do with his left hand (if he's holding a sword lowered in front of him, or a dagger behind him).

Pixel Art / Re: waterfall (need critique)

Looks pretty good. Only thing I can really think of is that in the picture the water seems to be flowing out of the trunk of the tree. If you have a waterfall you're going to have a continuous stream from a larger water resource, and the tree shouldn't be in the middle of the stream.

Another thing to maybe consider is having the right side of the tree more evenly proportioned with the left, unless there is supposed to be a wind or something blowing from the right hand side. I haven't done a lot if iso work though.

If you want the leg up, I think the leg needs to be out a little more and the knee higher. Would be a more realistic martial arts style pose imho.

Pixel Art / Re: MEH ANATOMY SUCKZ

I agree. If you're just learning anatomy, pixel art isn't the best way to start. Use pencil and paper as stated above. I can sketch and paint fairly well, and I find pixel art to be harder in that respect.

Something to think about is getting some anatomy books by artist Burne Hogarth (think I got the name right). He has some books on anatomy and posing the human body that are pretty valuable resources. Or do what I mainly did in high school and study some good comic book art :P

I also think the book open is fine. And he doesn't need to be looking at the book just because it's open, because perhaps he just read a line out of the book for memorization and is now focusing on the enemy. One thing to consider is maybe having him hold the staff out a bit further for a more epic, striking pose.

I like the one on the left as well for reasons already stated above. Shading and stance is a bit better imo.
