Job offers / [PAID] 2D Pixel Art Animator needed.
« on: February 07, 2014, 06:03:02 pm »
Looking for a pixel art animator that can work with still sprites created by another artist. Work is to begin in 2-4 weeks. The game is a 2d platformer and the animator will be responsible for animating humans, enemies (humanoid/beasts/reptiles/etc, bosses, possibly flora, etc.) Experience in modular animation for larger enemies/bosses a plus, but not required.

Game resolution is 320x240 so most sprites will be fairly small.

Please send an email to:

shreveportconsolerepairs@gmail.com

with samples of your work as well as your rates, please! :)

Before reading ahead, please note that this is for work that will need to start either in mid/late December or Early/Mid January.

I am looking for an artist that is capable of producing semi-high-resolution tiles, character sprites, enemy sprites, and concept art. Must be able to work with a pre-existing style (or be quick and efficient at bringing current sprites into a new style.)

You will be provided with descriptions of all assets needed as well as multiple references when needed in order to ease the creation process.

Graphics/Animations will need to be in the same vein as Alundra for the PS1 (especially animation-wise.)

I currently have some of the graphics completed for the game, but would prefer not to post them here as they were provided by an artist that was paid, but is no longer working for me due to not completing work in a timely manner (1-2 months for a few hours of work.) I don't want to reveal any names because I don't want to tarnish anyones reputation over one incident. If you need to see the current graphics please don't hesitate to contact me!

I currently pay $10/hr average for Concept Art (symmetrical character sketches, symmetrical enemy sketches, level/area concepts etc.) and anywhere from $12/hr up to $15/hr for in-game art and animations. Anything near this would be great

Everything is negotiable. I am very easy to work with and will go out of my way to make the process as smooth as possible. I prefer to pay up-front for assets, but past work experience/references will play a lot into this. If you do not have good references I would prefer to do 1/2 up front and 1/2 upon completion until consistency can be proven (sorry!)

If interested please e-mail me at:

OR

Catch me on AIM at:

Hello,
I am looking to develop a short game for a 30 day competition that is currently on-going now.

Unfortunately, I can only offer $8/hr. If you are particularly fast at churning out graphics this can be raised significantly.

I am looking for some simple graphics in the vein of a Link to the Past. The style does not have to match A Link to the Past extremely closely, but the graphical style must match the genre - if that makes sense. SAMPLE WORK IS A MUST

I am looking for a QUICK AND EFFICIENT artist that can do simple, short animations as well. I do not expect graphics to be overly detailed or overly animated. They must meet a good medium between efficiency and quality, though. I am willing to use already created graphics as long as they have not already been used in other projects.

You must be able to create the following:

Main Character Sprite
NPC Sprites
Tiles/Tilesets
Enemy/Boss Sprites
HUD/Menu Graphics

The graphics/tiles will be within the 16x16 or 24x24 range.

Given the deadline this project cannot be too ambitious.

I would really like to discuss rates via instant messenger since it is so much faster. I prefer to pay partial upfront and partial upon completion. Major plus If you're able to accurately estimate time that it will take you to produce a certain graphic/tileset/etc.

I prefer AIM or facebook, but I can download any instant messenger. I can also be reached at shreveportconsolerepairs@gmail.com

If anyone is familiar with Atnas, he has done work for me in the past, and is currently working on some things for me right now. He can vouch for on-time up-front payment and payment upon completion.

Pixel Art / Purple Bug + "Mockup"
« on: May 16, 2011, 03:17:09 pm »

Pixelled this a week ago. I should do this more often :(.

C&C 100% welcome  :)

Just something I've pieced together in my down time at work. The lava and small plants are fully animated. The "claw" plant is animated as well via frames and software-means. The "specks" you see in the air are also animated . . . I would like to eventually animate all of the giant plants as well. I'd turn this into a game, but my pixel art skills aren't up to the task. I'm not very good at designing or animating and am terribly inconsistent.

@Pype - well I'm really not doing it for a game, but if the character turned up in a game it would be well. I'm really just trying to get the character down, not create a mockup at the moment, sorry!

Hey, Jad I know its crazy  . I didn't take it as an insult, and wouldn't really care if you were insulting me - no grudges.

When I say I can't draw a 4mm line, I mean I'm not even 1/100th as talented on paper as I am with pixel art, so its actually kind of harder for me to get things to look proper =x. I'll still give it a shot as thats the advice i'm receiving from you and several others now :P.

@Olothontor
I'll give it another shot =s. When you sketch on paper how large do you go?

Thanks for the replies guys!

Me? Draw on paper? Joke of the millenium! I've tried many times, but I can't even draw a 4mm straight line on a piece of paper using a ruler so . . .yeah  :(.

I've seen characters with similar looks to this one (in terms of expression and stance) get nothing but praise here so I'm a little confused as to why that aspect of the guy is getting critiqued. I'll try to make another edit to address what you said, but I don't quite understand what should be changed.

Is his back too straight in the original? Are his eyes too innocent? How did I "kill the shape of the head ?_?" Is there any possible way you could give me a good reference as to what you are talking about?

I'll try raising the contrast on the shirt, but it may be tomorrow because my hard drive that I was working on JUST went out about 5 minutes ago so . . .

Oh yeah what do you mean by the shading is off? It is the same in both versions.

Thanks! :)

Pixel Art / Re: Rock tiles w.i.p.

I'm going to post a reply that I received just minutes ago addressing the same thing you are asking for :).

Your rocks are nondescript blobs. Could be coagulated cancerous tissue, could be melted cheese. No textural clues as to what they are.

Hey! Thanks a ton for the crits.

I will keep that in mind about the platforms, but I am going to focus more on the character for now, as that has been my weakness for 10 years now, and I am ready to adjust that.

Heres a little edit.

More interesting and intimidating now?  ;D

Practice makes perfect.

Heres another attempt.  :)

I need to draw some smaller tiles to go with him rather than using an old piece. Seeking C&C if possible

Pixel Art / Platform Character - Updated -
« on: July 04, 2010, 11:56:24 pm »
Well. Hi everyone. I've been pixelling on and off for about 10 years. Some of you may or may not have seen me before. I am not the worst pixel artist ever, and I'm definitely far from the best.

What really irks me is the fact that I am absolutely terrible at creating characters, be it for an RPG, platformer, etc. so I would really love some help with improving and evolving my art.

First, here is a quick sample of what my platform graphics tend to look like.

Now for what my characters tend to look like

As you can see my ability to draw characters is HIGHLY inconsistent with my abilities to draw platform graphics.  :-[ < - pretty much sums up how I feel every time I feebly attempt to draw a character.

I figured starting small and working my way up would be the way to go so hit me with your best shot, Pixelation. It will be much appreciated.  :)
