it's Photoshop CS 3. For the surface I did use the trick with indexed painting described here http://wayofthepixel.net/index.php?topic=16531.msg149962 . Surface and clouds were added manually, and dithering too.

Emitted light got dimmer, and some dithering is applied.

I was doing a planet for a cut-scene. But then realized, that I don't understand some aspects of this format.


How to deal with the radiating light gradients? It feels off for some reason. Is there a way ta make it look better with even less colors?

I think everything is too dark even for my TFT monitor. On CRT monitor I could't see a thing. Pure darkness. Maybe some brightness can be applyed.

Thank you very much, advices were very usefull.  I've changed pose a bit and tried to make his head a bit less phallic. Lol, I never intended to make it look that way in the first place.

I'm working on the concept of a dragon like creature. My eye has blured, so I can't see flaws in the image. Need help!  Not sure if the lighting is correct and the colours are fine.

I'm irritated how I can't tell the second level from the first.
I suggest you either change colours on the first and second floor, or add shadow casting.
If there are only two levels, colour variant will work best.
