Wow, awesome, congrats. It's neat seeing so many of you guys in one game.

Hey guys. I used to post here and on Zoggles' community site quite often back in the day, and remember quite a few of you. Pretty neat seeing so many familiar names still around. Since 2006 my interests started taking a dramatic shift more towards the music end of things. I still dig game development and pixel-art, but I'm an awful programmer, and have no budget to hire one. I can produce, master, and release albums quite painlessly, so it's more of a satisfying medium for me.

Anyway, I want to break into freelance work soon, so I figure a good way to do that is get a few game soundtracks under my belt. If you're working on a (preferably small-ish) game that requires a few tunes, shoot me a PM. I really only want to do games that have some chance of being finished and released, so try and keep that in mind.

Much of my stuff is avant-pop and includes influences from old 70's prog rock. That style seeps into my Chip/VG sounding music quite a bit as well... see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_W9pX-kG_8 for a few examples.

Thanks! :)

Humans are about the size of his shell. There will be creatures of varying sizes... it's only Lovecraftian in it's atmosphere. I do plan on some juggernauts though.

Here's an example:

Title says it all. I'll add more creatures to the thread as I progress. Almost all of the creatures in the game are docile but I still want them to carry an underlying sinister tone. As if they're all conspiring to sneakily kill you.

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Try at a scrollingshooter ship. Need help!
« on: March 30, 2008, 05:25:05 am »
I'm going to mirror what the others said. This piece has some really crazy pillow shading going on, I almost want to rest my head on your ship. Also, don't get down on MS Paint. It is a powerful little program and I use it for all of my pixel work.

yes, indeed, welcome.
HOWEVER, I must state my dissatisfaction with one aspect of your avatar. The bottom of the carton's lid is pillow shaded! :'(

I think it kind of works in that context... it's just one pixel thick.

2D & 3D / Re: Official OT-Creativity Thread 2

This is technically pixel art, but I don't think a thread in the Pixel Art forum would be appropriate. It's an adventure game thread I made on the SA Forums. Some of the backgrounds look a little cheap because I have to move at such a fast pace to keep up with suggestions... but I do my best. Check it out here:

Here's something I figured some of you might enjoy...

-01- In the Beginning (3:29)
-02- Eden (3:47)
-03- Noah and the Flood (3:02)
-04- Climbing the Ziggurat (5:11)
-05- The Exodus (6:54)

http://jaytholen.net/jaytholen_theoldtestament.zip (30.6 Mb)

This is the first half of a project I've been working on for the past few weeks. Just a fun electronic/chiptune thinger I fit in to distract me from my every day responsibilities. I'm still open to messing around with the songs, so any feedback would be appreciated. I'm influenced heavily by prog rock, jazz fusion, and romantic/baroque period music, so if you like any of that check it out.

I rarely do pixel art anymore, unfortunately. Most of the stuff that I did in the past you can find here: http://jaytholen.net/gallery.html
