Hello,
I sent you a friend request on Discord.

I have close to two decades of industry experience working on a variety of high profile pixel games some of which are Shantae: Pirate's Curse/Risky's Revenge, Mummy Demastered, Pier Solar, Gunlord, Monster Tale and many more. I have also published two commercial solo game projects - Ultionus: A Tale of Petty Revenge and Mystik Belle.

You can find a somewhat outdated portfolio here.
Or download a more recent one as a zip file here.

Thank you.
Andrew.

Pixel Art / Re: Dangerous Dave [NES]
« on: April 07, 2014, 05:21:10 pm »
Does the game end at the end-level door? I got that far but couldn't enter it.

This is a weird demake. In a way - I'm not sure it's necessary, as NES graphics look only marginally different than the game's original EGA. Furthermore, I'm afraid you lost a large part of the original Dangerous Dave's appeal when you made player and enemy sprites chibi.

While it doesn't really work as a demake - it might still work as an original game. Add more enemies/obstacles, spruce up the level design, and maybe give the player more abilities - and bam! Original game: )

The enemies respawn endlessly - same as in most old games. Your points are also your money - you'll be thankful for respawning enemies once you find a store - character upgrades are pretty expensive.
After you kill the boss of the jungle - jump in the hole it leaves behind.

Fixed! Sorry about that.

Hey guys!
I have just released my first commercial indie game. The game is a love-letter to the home computer arcade games of 80s and 90s, such as Phantis, Halloween Harry, Astro Marine Corpse and Jill of the Jungle. The game features tons of lush, varied and well animated pixel art and lots and lots of rockin' chiptunes by the legendary Jake 'Virt' Kaufman!

Trailer:

The story is silly, and goes sort of like this:
Galactic hero Serena S has been trolled on Spacebook. This is obviously a cause to embark on an epic quest to punish the troll in question, who just happens to be The Space Prince. Guide Serena through 7 stages of shmup action, jumping, shooting, and yet decidedly more jumping and shooting to her ultimate goal of total testicular annihilation of her foe.

Screenies:

Demo : Windows, Linux, OUYA
Full: Purchase DRM-Free via Humble Store (Windows and Linux versions so far - no Ouya version just yet)

Thank you guys.
Cheers!

General Discussion / Re: Legend of Iya

A guy on my kickstarter had this to say about the extreme slowdown:

Quote
I managed to fiddle with it, but it worked much better once I plugged in a controller vs. keyboard. Don't even have to use the controller, so long as it's plugged in.

So it might be an error in something GameMaker does with the controller code on some computers. I should just disable controller support in the demo by default, I guess... that's just odd.

EDIT:
Please retry the demo now from these links:

I have tried to rectify the slowdown issue by adding an option to shut off controller completely. In fact - it's off by default - go to the options menu to enable it.
Also a Xbox360 controller D-Pad support. W00t!

yes - the music is poop - it's from the 8-bit LOI I did back on ZX Spectrum, and, yes - I didn't have anything finished by the time Kickstarter was approved: ( If I happen to get a better sounding track at some point before the end of Kickstarter - I'd probably re-cut the trailer.
Yeah - so far it's been just me, and yes - I wrote an editor, which was surprisingly not that difficult - but then again - I wasn't going for either polish or user-friendliness: )
