the crouch seems rather a unneccesary gesture

I'd disagree. The crouch made sense. Generally, when I try to pick some up, and realize it's heavy, I tend to crouch down instinctively so I can use my legs for much of the lifting, instead of my back. Lifting the sword looks too effortless without the crouch, to me at least.

Edit: Maybe a bit less of a crouch would be better though. In any case, you should do something to make it look heavy when he's lifting the sword. The extra bit of wobble in Corsair's edit definitely works, though, especially in his latest edit, it looks like the sword is nothing as he lifts it up, so it's conflicting to see the wobble after he lifts the sword so effortlessly.

Pixel Art / Re: mini pixel font

I can't say that's a SUPER mini pixel font, considering it's 6 x 8.

Here's some examples of small pixelled type.

The bottom-most face is 6 x 8 pixels also, although X, Y, 4, and a few other characters are 7 x 8 (probably something I should fix :-\). On the top, you have a face that's 5 x 6, then one that's 5 x 5, and finally one that's 4 x 4, which is about the smallest you'd want to set type in for the screen, I think.

For most characters, I'd say yours LOOKS like 4 x 5, because the outline is so close to the background color. BUT it's definitely not fixed width. Many are 7 x 8. Probably something you should've mentioned, since you did say it's fixed width.

Anyways, I agree with AlienQuark about the gray outline; it's definitely not needed, and it will be much sharper without it for sure. Although, probably you don't need to get rid of it, just make it a color that stands out better. ;D

There's definitely not enough contrast in that mockup. I'd recommend lightening up the medium shade of blue.

Sorry for the triple post, this is on the second page and I wanted people to see it.

Here's another mock up. It's still a bit of a WIP but it does have some interesting things in it.

I think that *might* count as annoying flashing.

This new mockup is AWESOME. Though, I really can't figure out why a frog would be picking up bananas. Was this just random, or is there another reason behind this?

Those animations kick donkey. I love how simple some of them are.

The problem with your "running" animation is that it isn't a running animation. For your dinosaur to be running, it needs both feet off the ground for most of the animation. You should also cut down on frames quite a lot.

@Ace: sorry, but your screen seems really too saturated and too bright to me.
Don't you mean un-saturated?

I gotta say though, I did like those edits. I think the water could use a bit of desaturation.
