Pixel Art / Star Wars Lego Stop Motion Animations
« on: December 28, 2016, 11:40:09 pm »
I stumbled across some of these clips of stop motion lego animations I was working on a while ago for fun, and figured I'd put them somewhere before they get deleted!

I had them looking better in video clips with post production effects, but these'll suffice (don't wanna dig up footage, and gifs are easier to post). All the animations were taken at 12 fps.

Here's a punching clip that ended up being too slow of a swing, but I got it to look more natural in post production.

Here's a quick clip of a storm trooper putting on a helmet..

And here's a little dialogue sequence that I had audio linked up to.

All of these were primarily fun little tests, changing camera settings, etc. You may notice inconsistent lighting, and that's largely due to messing with settings/lighting between shots.

General Discussion / Re: What Games Do You Think Have The Best Pixel Art?

I'll personally add Fez to the list. I know the game is "technically" 3D, but Phil Fish (game dev) actually created the 2D pixel art that was later texture wrapped to the 3D voxel objects similar to how Minecraft blocks work. I'm counting Fez because of it's intention be/look 2D, despite being in a 3D world, and because of the insane creativity that Phil Fish used when creating the game.

General Discussion / What Games Do You Think Have The Best Pixel Art?

I'm trying to compile a list of games with outstanding pixel art, and was curious about what the pixelation community thought of which games are honorable mentions in this list.

So.. what games do you think have "amazing", "creative", "elegant", or what-have-you pixel art?

And here's a 2nd version, with even more modifications (slight nose change, eyebrow change to go with the curvature of the eye, bird slightly different, a little bit more hair).

Pixel Art / Re: Reindeer
« on: December 24, 2016, 08:14:32 pm »

I liked @pistachio 's rendition of the reindeer, but it looks way too much like a bear for me. It still needs to be thinner.. more sleek!

I've slightly modified pistachio's, made the back leg thinner, added a tail, and changed some coloring. I'm not happy with the shading and a few other tweaks could be made, like the front legs don't quite look right, but here's a version for you to tweak if you'd like.  Sounds like you're in a rush!  :P

Edit: Made a few more modifications.. I think the christmas hat, the eyes, and the ears kinda suck, but more food for thought.

Here's some slight modifications to the face. I think the mouth looked a bit off because of the bottom lip.  Also, I thought the ear looked a bit off as well, so I added a bit more hair. The forehead seemed to be too flat as well, so I tried to round it off with some shading.

Just some of my thoughts/changes!

Pixel Art / Critique Construction Worker Character Design
« on: December 23, 2016, 12:29:39 am »
Hey guys, new to the forum here so I figured I'd introduce myself with a critique request! I have more experience in environment design and creation than I do in character creation, and I'd much rather do environmental design.  However, my friends and I have been tossing around some ideas for a game, so I've been researching and messing around with different pixel art character styles.

I think I like a minimalistic appearance/style. I'd love to do more detailed designs, but if I'm going to be animating multiple characters/NPCs/environments then I should probably stray away from complex designs.

Anyways, here's my first go at a construction worker with a minimalistic design style, and I'm opening up this post for critique. The character is supposed to be someone who works in sewers, but I figured stylizing for a construction worker would be easier.

..It's also worth noting that I'm partially color blind (color deficient actually.. I can see color dang it!), so if any of the color choices are off, do let me know! I have no one around right now to color check for me!
