I would lay down some solid colors / fills first, blocking in the shapes. What kind of color style are you looking for? Are you trying to keep this 8-bit look?

You don't create much anticipation with a jump in a video game, so 1 frame of anticipation is usually enough. Then you would do a up frame, a hovering frame, a down frame and contact frame. That would be some basics that I would probably do. The trick is programming the jump and making the animation correct! Let me know if I'm not coming across clearly.

I think you hit the main issue with Discord vs Forums. Forums can easily keep a searchable log. Discord, while searchable isn't setup for a good history.

Forums such as this one work much better for this type of conversation, display and archival of content than Discord, IMO.
I've tried to use a few Discord servers lately, but stuff just gets lost in the feed and it's never seen again.

I still visit occasionally and am trying to come back. I am migrating away from the new web with things like Discord, I find them a biggest distraction than a communication tool. lo spec web and the likes I'm finding much more relaxing and relatable to my old self. Forums and IRC are things I've been back into.

Pixel Art / Re: [C+C] Fire Sword Skeleton
« on: January 21, 2016, 08:49:12 pm »
First off, it looks kind of skeleton based. But the mid section is so confusing that I don't know what is going on. It looks like a wispy ripped shirt. The sword?!?!?! also looks like a sickle split in two. Now the fire's colors aren't the colors I normally see when I see fire burning. So that would be my main issue. It looks more like smoke in the way you have it now. Especially the floating pixels.

Love the little trees! Do the characters really need the black outline with such few pixels available to them? Couldn't those pixels be used for me detail?

I am currently working on an edit, sorry I haven't posted it yet, still a heavy WIP. You currently have hundreds of colors, which is overkill as well as many other things that bother me, but a picture says a thousand words so I will post it as soon as I get it close to what I want to explain.

Edit:

I did a few things here but gave up as you have way too many colors and it looks like you didn't pixel this. The black outlines really aren't needed and as you can see in a few areas look fine where I removed them. I can't really read the characters on the screen so I wasn't sure how to edit them besides removing that really dark black. Throughout your palette you have many colors that are nearly identical to a few others. Notice how I removed the black shadows. Shadows should not be black but reflect the ground that they are cast on. I edited a few buildings as well but didn't touch the ground much. Again, you have outlines over everything which I don't think so be there.

Here is a image with reduced colors, down to 32 colors. (Note I didn't finish my edits on this one.) I know there are a few details missing but that's because I used software to reduce the colors and didn't do it manually. As you can see much of the detail remains.

I hope this helps some.

The character portraits suffer from pillow shading.
Gameplay screenshot wise:
Do you really need black outlines over everything?
Why not use contrast instead?
What's up with the solid filled color shapes?

Flash is terrible for animation. Here is Toon Boom Studio, exactly the best tool for 2d animation.

Wait, so this isn't an "axe" guitar? Where is the blade? If the guitar body is supposed to be the blade then why is it 3 inches thick? Do you have any other images of this axe so we can see what you are aiming for, because right now it's just a shot in the dark. :-[
