totally aside of pix-art, but beautiful rocks? watch "Das Rad", a short animation starring a couple of rock piles. perhaps that could spark something.

Depends a lot on whether this is going to stand alone as art or be placed on other backgrounds.
If standalone, I would go for more luminosity, glow in the dark effect. Also more intricate patterning on the underside of the cap and the stalk, now they are just line scratches.

Pixel Art / Re: Zombie Problem

hold one step. your first piece was in my opinion substantially better than the reformed 'realistic' zombie. it had beautiful qualities of disturbance - expression, contrast, skew. Not to mention the skyblue righthighllines, making it pop out like i almost reach for 3d glasses. the first piece Is Art. The second piece is Illustration. If i may be so bold, i would say the first piece needed none to little improvement, and the attempt of 'refining it' was a disaster. Continue making fresh pieces at will. Regard advice when it does not involve restructuring the whole picture. with all due respect to the zombie autopsy.

Pixel Art / Re: Ghost Hunting Ghost (formerly "standing animation")

it felt a bit hectic, the movement is so fast.. the climbing ladder is nice...
all round hard to say much more since it is still so early in..
but the speed seems more suited to an all out destruction fest than a creepy ghost hunt,
felt more like Gibbage than Aztec, Rick Dangerous or FlashBack, which i presume(?) is more the direction you're headed
