Pixel Art / Re: Plague Doctor [WIP]
« on: May 07, 2011, 07:37:39 am »
I haven't had much time the past couple of weeks but I finally got some decent work done on the doc.
I've mostly coloured him in and made some other adjustments. There's still a lot to be done like highlights, folds in the clothing, more shading and changing the outline to sel-out.
Just want to see what people think so far.

Is there too much dithering? I quite like Hawk's rough dithering on the light (not sure if that was on purpose or not) but is it too much where I've applie it to the robe as well?

Thanks.

Thanks! I didn't realise how short he was until it was pointed out. The lamp is just a placeholder which is why it's so small.
Your edit is great, Hawk. I knew it looked much too stiff and uninteresting, what you did with the shoulder is perfect for what I wanted.

Can't wait to start colouring this guy in, I think he should turn out really well.

Sorry to bump but I didn't want to make a whole new thread. :-[

I've updated this with some substantial line art.
Anatomy isn't my strong suit; how does this look so far?

This guy is great! He reminds me of a Bile Demon from Dungeon Keeper.
The shadow shows that the light source is from directly above, so I think it could use some more highlights on the skin and some darker shading on the legs and feet.

Just noticed that the AC and Antenna would have to be installed with people on top so there should be some safety.
Such as a Parapet (aka low wall) that surrounds the building so it look's more realistic.

I suggest dropping the inside to keep the same height instead of adding in Walls.

This was actually in my original idea, but I guess I forgot to add it in. It's there now, as well as what's supposed to be a silhouette of a man standing on the edge of the building (I did this rather quickly)

Here's the moon in a different colour to the windows, as people have suggested.

Here the windows are a different but very similar colour to the moon.

I like the latter more, to me the moon just looks right when it's yellow.

This is what it looks like if the building was isometric.
I don't think it suits, because this picture has layers, where as an isometric piece is generally a flat, consistant image.

Here is my new version with pistachio's edit taken into heavy consideration :). It seems like no one likes the moon, but I still at least want it yellow, so I've reduced the saturation and also added some shading to make it look less like a flat pancake.
I know the perspective of the shadows on the objects on the roof are differet to the building angle, but I think they line up with the moon correctly.
The clouds now look like actual clouds too.

I'm aware of the inconsistent perspective. It's not intented as an isometric picture, that just happened to be the right angle for the buildings in the background. The foregorund building has a lower angle on it because it's closer to the viewpoint.

Pistachio: Your edit has helped heaps! I'll have a play with different colours for the moon.

The clouds are still a bit flat and the moon needs some more texture (perhaps another colour added), as well as the building in the foreground; looks a bit plain.

Just need some C+C so I can move forward in the right direction! :) Thanks.

Pixel Art / Album Art

I made this as an alternate version of the art for a black metal album named 'Unhalig'.
It's been a long time since I've done pixel art, and I've just learnt how to use Pro Motion (which is fantastic), so I'm a tad rusty with the old mouse.

Let me know what you think, and how I could improve. Thanks!
