Pixel Art / Re: My art looks awkward, how can I fix it
« on: July 24, 2020, 08:37:18 pm »
Its best to post your artwork at the original size, so 1 pixel stays on pixel if that makes sense.

one of the main things that feel wrong is the pose, it feels like the goblin would fall over.
Put the legs apart a bit, and position the arms in a more interesting way.

I think your goblin just needs some more work put into it.

Use the tutorial only as a starting point, then add more things like :

 - weapons
  - armor
  - mouth
  - colors
  - background

Googling goblins and orcs should get you some inspiration

good luck !  : )

Hehe, i should really "cheat" more often lol

this is probably gonna be the last version of these, i'm not really progressing much more

the palette was a bit limiting, i should really just pick my own colors in future

Thanks for all the feedback fskn, was fun seeing all your edits :)

Using the white highlight is more of a style thing for me i guess, i like it because i feel like it livens up the eyes :p

you are totally right about the chin, looks alot more like him

Some more edits, dandelion was very contrast-heavy, so i darkened the other portraits as well:

Thanks for the Edits fskn!

really liked you additions to the hair, and ciri's nose

also added a bit of the darker colour of the pauldron to the face

Tried some different lighting on the face, not sure if its better

I know the way i light his face is different from the reference, trying to simplify it a bit , with just light from the right like this:

removed the dithering, was too distracting imo, and made some clusters in the hair better

new:

old:

i feel like the scars mess up alot of readability in the face, but then again i wanne keep them because they are iconic to the character :/

without scars:

Hello,

A while back i made a ciri portrait 32x32 pixels, and had alot of fun.

So i made a geralt one, but it doesnt feel as strong as the ciri one:

maybe i added too many details ?, would love to know any advice to improve them :)

some of the references i used:

Hi,

I think the way you shade the character is fine, but it really lacks contrast, make your shadows darker and light areas lighter.
(this also applies to your other post, the statue)

I would also change the way she is standing. Right now, it feels like she's gonna fall over to the right.

In some areas i would use fewer shades, you don't need all of them.

a bit of an example to show what i mean, the legs still need more work lol:

some of the progress:

Overall you are on the right track though, keep it up ^^

Hi, i think the shading on the character looks a bit messy, i would focus on using bigger clusters of pixels instead of short small lines.

made a quick edit of how would roughly shape it:

the colours are nice and the anatomy seems ok to me ( i could be wrong though hehe)

I guess i was trying to show the entire forest reflected, wich doesnt make alot of sense

would this version be better, only showing the first row of trees's reflection?

framerate is faster, dont mind that
