Job offers / [PAID] Need artists for adventure side-scrolling game
« on: January 01, 2019, 06:11:54 pm »
Hello ladies and gents!

We're currently working on a 16-bit styled adventure side-scrolling game, reminiscent of many SNES classics such as Actraiser 1&2, Super Ghouls n' Ghosts, Capcom's Magical Quest series, et cetera.

Despite we're working on 16-bit styled game, we're ready to break some rules like color count per tile or sprite, etc.

WE NEED:

  • Animated sprite artist(s).
  • Pixel artist(s) for background tiles and objects.
  • Cleaning artists, to help polish existing assets; remove doubles, add anti-aliasing and dithering effects, etc.

EXPECTED QUALITIES

Availability. We need skilled artists that we can trust to deliver assets within a reasonable amount of time. The schedule doesn't have to be full-time or filled with crazy deadlines, we only expect the result isn't delivered one month late with constant radio silences.

Artist needs to have a professional understanding of:
  • colors.
  • shape proportions.

It's a huge benefit if artist can take advantage of a 3D tool such as Blender to create the base work for volume, shadow and lighting effects for certain elements in the game. Still, the end result needs to be flattened to pixel art.

Artist needs to have an understanding of pixel concepts such as:
  • anti-aliasing.
  • dithering.
  • low color count and palette manipulation.
  • and other disciplines that help to make retro pixel visuals an unique work of art.

Communication. We mostly use Trello to plan tasks and share updates. It's a web application, which only require a quick registration to get started.

RENUMERATION

Having been an artist for commission myself in the past, I understand the need of making a living, so as a result we'll do our best to offer generous wages with artists showing dedication (as we may also want to create business relationship for upcoming projects). We can of course discuss a method of payment that suits the artist best.

CURRENT WORK IN PROGRESS, STILL NOT FULLY POLISHED

P.S. We have more, but we wish to keep the development secretive at this point in time.

CONTACT

Feel free to PM me to share your portfolio and pricing table. Please, don't expect an immediate response as we'll need to study each candidate before hiring.

Anyway, believe it or not, as a freelance worker I can easily confirm that most of employers pay very badly, so why not, sakura’s art is worthy in such context, and he could improve with time at worst.

Also remember that sprites you make for work generally will be less in quality compared to sprites you made "for fun/leisure".

Strange, but that's one of the most interesting remark I've read :)

The OC's composites are extremely impressive. I've seen them on Gameloft, but strangely they looked less impressive on their website than here.

You're a wonderful artist.
