Pixel Art / Re: Mama where is papa ?

hmmm, I actually kinda like the dither here. Gives it kind of a noisy pastel look that adds to the ethereal storybook feeling of the piece.

Good work my man, I think the only area that doesn't look so great is the highlights in the hair.

(edit: whops, reading comprehension.)

AIGHT SO, on the topic of hair:
-treat it in terms of clumps, and try to imply overall texture rather than trying to overdetail it. It's a bit finnicky to get together at first, but it helps to sketch out the hairlines so you understand the curves and where the light would catch more. For example, here, it seems light is coming from the left. So, clumps on the left should have the highlights and the bits on the right should be solid color with minimal texture.

Thanks, I shall revise @sketching hairlines , need a bit of a break from it first, get some clarity  :P

Pixel Art / Mama where is papa ?

Hi, I've been doing this for a few hours now, it's fast becoming my "coming of age pixel piece" and as such I want to get this one right, however as you can see, a bit lost as to what to do with the hair (which is definitely a stumbling block for me)

(Also, aware that the style dither is a bit excessive, prob wont be rolling that back though, went a bit too far but whats a coming of pixel age piece without the dither :P)

This might have been a mistake to post as its a done deal, just wanted some feedback and things to consider for the future, but I understand that's not the best use of the forum, sorry  :(

A C64 compo picture that has some pretty obvious flaws to me (due to how I tend to rush stuff near the end no doubt), but maybe some things I have over looked/am not even aware of at my level that might help me in the future.

Ptoing has been advising me with an emphasis on polishing stuff more but it would be cool to get some fresh eyes; perhaps bring up a fresh set of future challenges.

Hi, I'm Dylan

I've mainly been taking baby steps via the C64 demo scene, with not much experience out side of those restrictions.

I'm looking to expand my self as a perceptive artist first and foremost, then concentrate on getting it all reading well in wide pixels.

I've recently been having all kinds of fun with dramatic lighting and shadow stuffs, picking up things here and there (with not much understanding of 'why' things work.

Be cool to get some closer critique and maybe some encouragement in the right directions.

Here's a few things.

more recent, I don't consider it as polished but VERY me (down to not being polished as well)..

looking forward to making new friends ultimately.
