Pixel Art / [WIP] Cartoon Fighter Mockup
« on: December 09, 2007, 06:58:23 am »
Want to get the interface done with before I move on. The clock guy in the middle keeps track of fight time, and he needs c&c the most right now. I'm not sure if I like the bars, so they are subject to change. Remember, I was going for a cartoony look, as the game will be in a not so much real perspective.

This piece has way to much dithering, it makes it look like sandpaper. The piece is small, so just straight contrasting colors should do fine. AA should be a color that matches the part you're AAing and the background, or in this case a lighter color as the BG will change. AA around the edges, not inside the piece or it will look like shading.

You should animate the different legs and arms separately. right now it looks like he just keeps kicking the same foot forward.

Alot of it depends on the chemical being burned. There are many salts that burn various greens and purples just because they have a certain energy. For the sake of flames though, the left of the spectrum is the coldest, and the right is the hottest.

Switched up the dark shade. Hue shift, looks a little better defined.

It's very well done for a first attempt, we can tell what it is :D. I'd say try and make it look less flat, take a look at some clothing models and see how they would fit on a body. Add some folds or creases in the clothes to give it a better fool too. Another part that sticks out is the hair and face. The hair needs to be rethought, as it looks like it might be stemming out of the hat. Try making the hat look on top of the hair, and making the hair look more hair-like.  The face just needs to be mostly redone. Take into account the positioning of each facial feature. Lastly, try to get rid of the black outlines, and outline in a darker shade; while shading by shifting hues.

Your cloud looks to be way to much like many seperate balls. I suggest you make it look more like a solitary cloud, and also add more contrast.

<<<Edit

I might've over dithered, but you get the idea, looks less like a stack of baseballs.

Started to add shadows. I got the back legs, and most of the back end done. I am a little confused on how to shade the neck and head though. I tried a shadow on the back, but it looked odd, and then just lightening the front looked up but still odd.
