General Discussion / Any good SHMUP-tutorials? Pixeling them
« on: March 23, 2008, 07:48:45 pm »
Ive just started pixeling again after a long brake, and Ive got my hands over some SHUMPs before. And as we all know good SHMUPs (Like DDP) are the drool. And IŽd like to atleast TRY to get deacent at pixeling SHMUP, or scrolling shooters in general, but IŽd like to see if theres a tutorial or such for these kinds of things? Or do I just have to study DDP and such in detail and work endless nights to improve my abillity?  ???

Thanks in Advance!

Pixel Art / [WIP] Try at a scrollingshooter ship. Need help!
« on: March 23, 2008, 07:22:03 pm »
I can see the problem, but IŽd like to get some tips on how to fix this fella. I just can't seem to place the cockpit there properly. The shades get all weird. The basic ship is alright but eh.. its just wrong. An edit to show how to fix it would be appriciated to as Im relearning most stuff as I havent pixeled in a while.

Mind you im using Paint right now, I usually use Gamemakers sprite editor (I find it VERY comfartable to use, as It was the program I learnt to pixel in)

Id say i think the legs are a bit to thin, are there no way making them more "chunky"? A little more flesh on the bone

I added a white background filtre down. Makes it look smoother :D

And just for the record, Id suggest no trying to see this at 100percent size. Ive made it 200percent first, I love the 16-bit (mostly because I often play Znes and love SHMUPs and all the like. I just feel that a wonderfully pixelled world is so much more tastefull and so more ALIVE, feels more DONE than a 3d-world which is just cold and "oh so slim". And second, It helps making smoother animations as I got double ammounts of pixels to move the image on.

Edit; I can't seem to find the white-filtered one. But I do have a white backgruond on my gallery.

They look a bit dark. Id suggest tone down the saturation and make them a bit lighter. Dunno much else.
