Thanks for the tips, Tourist. I've updated the main post with a brief overview of the scope of what we need.

The scope of work is a bit vague.  It would be useful to know roughly how many characters are required.  Do you also need the characters designed, or simply drawn from existing descriptions?

Good luck on your project,
Tourist

I'll post something more detailed when I get in to the office tomorrow - all the characters we need exist as concept art and many have rough sprites already. I should be able to compile a list of what we need versus what we already have. Would it also help to post an estimate for compensation? I haven't gotten a single email regarding this post yet and would like to do what I can to make it more appealing.

Job offers / [TAKEN] Saturday Morning RPG - Pixel Artist Needed!

Thanks to all who applied! We've filled the position!

Hi everyone! I'm Josh Fairhurst, the lead designer and programmer at Mighty Rabbit Studios. We recently released our first major game, Saturday Morning RPG, for iOS devices. Saturday Morning RPG is an episodic JRPG set in a world inspired by 1980s Saturday morning cartoons. If you’ve got an iDevice, you can download the first episode of the game for free at: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/saturday-morning-rpg/id512545512?mt=8

We’re currently hard at work on the game’s third episode and are completely bottlenecked by art. We’ve only got one 2D artist on staff and we’re currently utilizing him for a contract – what that means is we now need another 2D artist solely devoted to Saturday Morning RPG.

What we’re looking for in a sprite artist:
-   Someone who can match or exceed our previous artist’s style
-   Someone who is proficient at animating all matters of living (and non living) things. Some enemies are animals, some are humans, and some are robots – we need someone who can animate all of those.

Some things we’d like to see in a sprite artist (but won’t require):

-   A passion for the source material (Saturday morning cartoons of any era)
-   A strong sense of humor (we’d love for humor to come across in your animations)
-   A strong sense of creativity, sometimes I don’t know exactly how an attack should look and I’d really like to work with someone who can figure that out with me (and make it awesome!)
-   An ability to create other 2D assets such as in-game signage or posters (these would not be pixel art, and we would pay you for these separately).

Art Requirements:

Saturday Morning RPG takes place in two different modes – Overworld and Battles. Overworld sprites are typically 48 x 48 in an isometric perspective. Battle sprites are 128 x 128 from a side view. Some larger characters will break these dimensions by necessity, but most stick to them. None of the animations in the game are super complex – our current artist was good about creating animation in as few frames as necessary. The vast majority of animations are 3 – 5 frames in total. If we decide to work with you, it will be up to you to optimize animations and keep frame numbers down.

For the main character, we already have a large set of existing sprite art for you to work from and modify (which should save you a ton of time). All of our current art is done with GraphicsGale – we prefer that you continue to use this, but are open to having the art done in any other program (you just won’t be able to use our existing GraphicsGale files).

What we need for the project (all frame estimations are rough):
-   1 48 x 48 overworld sheet (12 frames total)
-   5 96 x 96 overworld sheets (25 - 30 frames total)
-   5 128 x 128 battle sheets (60 - 75 frames total)
-   4 128 x 128 main character battle sheets (16 - 20 frames total)
-   2 32 x 32 object icons (2 frames total)

So in total we need anywhere from 115 - 139 frames in total of various sizes. A lot of the art mentioned above already exists in a rough form and just needs cleanup and everything related to the main character should be relatively easy since we've got so much existing artwork for him. There is also a significant amount of overlap between two of the battle sheets we need. I'm happy to discuss what we need in much more depth through email. I don't want to clutter this post up too much.

Payment:

We will be paying you a lump sum for a defined set of sprite art. We will pay out on four weekly milestones when deliverables are turned in. Half of the first milestone will be paid upfront as a good will payment. We have $1,500 - $2,000 budgeted to complete this artwork.
