Damn sexy. Looks to me like every pixel was utilized to its fullest potential, it's practically identical to the '3d'? version on Cube, style and graphicwise. Sorry for the lack of crits but I don't see much "wrong" with these, they're just awesome.

Very nice, especially for the teeny sprite size. Will this game be available for play?

I like your bottom sprites. Nice colors and shading :p
Nice job on the larger sprite in various places but as the previous post it could use some attention. He covered two things I was going to comment on, so I'll just say I hope you post an updated one. Would be a shame to let that go unfinished ;p

Fixed up the eye a bit, added a few small shadowing details. I hadn't realised my first attempt had the whole 'egyptian' eye thing goin. You know, the overly sized eye that looks unrealistic and sticks out?

Pixel Art / FF's first flesh/hair attempt

Did a simple profile for this study.. Felt like creatin a mohawk for him, pretty annoying to keep that shade layer in for mohawk designs when light corners the spikes, haha.

10 colors + black, I know there are a few things wrong with him. My anatomic science wiz friend who is studying realism drawings says the neck should be curved more, but even by a few pixels it looks kind of odd, so I'm keeping it where it is unless you guys have a good reason. His eye didn't turn out well, I'll try to redo it but with the size like that and need of higher contrast shades, I don't know if I can get much more detail out of it. Nose seems a bit funky shaped, didn't want to leave it triangular, though. I had a hard time shading this guy with 4 colors.. but all in all it was fun. The hair texture looks alright but I'm sure I might be able to get some more out of it. As far as overall shading.. -sigh- Well I'm pretty sure its screwy. I don't really know how to fix that, though. The lighting on the face is the correct light source for the whole piece, so if something doesn't match that (undoubtedly) please make a comment.
Oh, and here's the nonedited lineart I drew out. Nonedited as in I didn't fix the double lines and small screw-ups.

C&C Greatly appreciated as it is my only learning method at this point.

Nice lineart, I can see this guy finished will be awesome as hell. I hated most gundams but the wing series and the endless waltz movie.. Stupid SD gundam ruined it for me..

I agree with you cam but because I was trying to learn my mistakes during this process I sort of ended up following a cookbook, heh. I learned alot about shading and color choices by doing this one small sprite.. so hopefully this pattern of following orders won't happen too much more. I appreciate everyone's comments and help on this piece, I can tell I'v improved since the first try for sure. I'll be sure to pay more attention to details throughout my influences and such. I set out to make a decent looking swordfish sprite and it's been accomplished.. I may or may not continue working on this at a later date, I don't think the background really matters for this piece.
Finale:

Thanks for all the C&C, its the best way to improve.

Pixel Art / Re: Staff that needs work (piece of fan art)

Derk?
-ahem-
The progress is always a good thing to show, a few things I'd like to point out are..
First and foremost, your shading. Many, many things i'v done have started with that ugly term pillow-shading, which if you don't already know, is shading from the center out. (Assuming there is a light source between the viewer and the staff, as someone put it) Its generally looked down upon and its much easier to get depth from other angles of light.

The decoration popping out from the central part of the shaft seems a bit excessive in my opinion.. If you were holding a lifesize version that piece would hinder and annoy you while wielding the staff, unless you were just using as a walking stick.. But who would do that with a neat staff? ;p

The palette for the crystal ball should have more contrast and you don't need 6 different shades to show blending. Because its a spherical shape you should probably use a small dither on it and be able to achieve a nicer result.

Overall, you should really do a color count on that. Basically, the lower amount of colors you have the easier it is to control your piece in shading. Anywhere from 3-5 shades per color on smaller pieces works for me, although some more experienced people may want to help you out in that department.

One last thing I'd like to point out.. There are "perfect" pixel lines.

This is an image from the tutorial: http://www.pixelfreak.com/tutorial/
This shows the perfect lines in pixelating. These lines will come out the smoothest and will generally look alot nicer. If you're near these but not quite on them, you'll end up with jagged lines.

Inside the boxes are jaggies. ;p

Well anyhow, I hope some of this helps you out. I look forward to an updated product.
