General Discussion / Re: Goblins Of The Game Industry

I know this is pretty much a necropost, but this is easily one of the most helpful and interesting reads on the subject I've encounted so far. I myself was thinking about getting a couple of my art buddies together to try and make something but didn't really know what to do/where to go with it/how to safeguard it incase something went wrong. At least now it'll be a little 'easier' to start looking into things.

Some critiques for the second image:

The outlines look quite broken everywhere.
The blue thing on the staff looks like a hand, even though I assume you're going for... feathers?
The girl's colours are too similar. Consider changing her hair colour, boot colour and staff colour (the purple part)
The style is nice. I like the shape of the cape.
Maybe less hair and more face?
Her bracelet is too close in colour to her skin. I didn't even see it til now.
Outline her fingers on the right hand more.
The spiky part of the hair clashes with the smooth flowy part

Alright, peace, I'm out

Nah, it was supposed to be a hand coming out of the staff. I kind of 'broke' the outlines on purpose because whenever I did do a full outline of everything it looked sort of flat, though I probably still need to play around with this a little more to get it right.

Yeah, the color scheme probably needs more contrast, to be sure (especially the bracelet), but I was hoping to keep the color pallete looking sort of 'soft'. Any suggestions on how to achieve this sort of effect?

As for the 'shape of the cape' and 'spiky hair', everything in this frame is wind-swept. This is supposed to be part of an animated gif, and this frame would probably be somewhere about midway through the gif. I could do a no-wind version of this, wouldn't take took long.

I think I jumped the gun a bit, I'm going to try a couple things first before I do this.

They are the BlazBlue duders, right?
From what I just looked at it looks like they just scan stuff, clean it up with single pixel outlines and add very basic anime type shading to it. There does not seem to be any advanced pixeltech at all, such as AA or what have you. Very simple stuff process wise.
AA = Anti-aliasing, right? How exactly does that work and what's a good example of something that uses it?

And yeah, they did games like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue.

use the mona lisa icon to generate image tags, you're much less likely to get responses if people have to click a link to see your work. As previously stated, make sure the images are at 1x, since the forum has a built-in zoom function.
So, like this?

I use GraphicsGale for that sort of thing. It's not free (it'll run you about 20 bucks), but it's also not expensive and a very nice program for that sort of thing.

I'd post the site, but I'm not sure if that's kosher. Just look up 'GraphicsGale' or 'HumanBalance' in google and you should find it.

EDIT: Guys, I'm gonna fix up my stuff and post it another day on another thread correctly. I'd also like to have more stuff to show... Sorry.

General Discussion / What is the Arc System Works process?

Hey everybody, not sure if this is the right forum for this or anything, but here goes.

Anyway, I have been wanting to attempt to try and do an ASW-style animated sprite, but I don't really know the specs or details beyond the fact that they draw frames traditionally on paper and color them in the computer. I'm studying animation and such so I thought it might be at least worth giving a shot if it's not too costly. Does anyone know what else is involved in their creative process (computer specs, programs, steps I'm missing, etc.)?

Thanks!
