What is it supposed to be? Are we supposed to color it? Is it a wip? Is it finished? What do you want us to do? I'll add crits to this space when I find out.

[EDIT]
Adding crits ^^

Maybe shape the lines to create black shadow figures. I think I see a rat on a table eating cheese in there. Or maybe a fish.

Thanks guys! I choose those colors because it made the road look like part of the background, however I see the point about contrast and I think you might be right. I'll experiment with it, add some more tiles and post an update when I'm done.

And while I'm here ^^

Mystic Aurora: I like the nice clean style, how you kept the grass and dirt one color and added tiny details like the flowers to show that green is grass for example. Replacing the texture of wood on the cabin and making it brown with cabin details could probably help toward that style. A candle in the window, a rocking chair on a porch or something similar.

Nice work so far everyone!

Decided to post my update before going to sleep.

Studied Sawtooth's nice road tile and managed to get some nice results for myself. I used 3 colors and 3 tiles for the road and the results were beyond what I thought I could accomplish so I'm glad. Thanks Pawige for the tip and thanks Sawtooth for the technique and thanks to all for posting and keeping my inspiration and motivation up, I will keep working on this. ^^

Hehe, nice idea on ideas. I however tend to wait until I get the feeling of 'I have to pixel this' but I'll remember the tip.

After experimenting with different combinations of white/black I made a white hovering ghost creature and a mummy sneaking around. I can definitly feel how I'm getting better at this so more of that wonderful c+c guys, all advice welcome. One day I'll be ready for colors.

*must... post... smiley...* ;)

Nice colors on the fruit :)

Based on my tiny knowledge of light source I could be way wrong here but shouldn't the highlight on the nose be a bit more on the top of the nose so it's consistent with how the shadow hits the bottom of the nose? But as I said, I could be way of here on how to implement an improvement, but something about the light seems odd. :D

It would be cool if you took a shade tone from the leaves on the tree and added some depth to the leave on the plant, would look neat ;D

Dang, that's freakin awesome!  :o

When's this stuff comin as a challenge? I would definitly enter that! ;) Downloading the updated image, tweaking my part, sending it in. Gosh, that would be awesome! Could be like, as you enter with your contribution it is automatically added and every row is like 5 contributions wide before dropping down to make a long thin image... *wanders of a bit, finds lost, got lost, lost lost... 'Mm, Reality', snaps out*... oh yeah by the way!

Nice freaking picture so far guys! Not only do you manage to do something complex and beautiful while retaining the style, you also manage to shift in and out to get a nice mix of styles that's your own! Excellent work guys ;D

Hey, that was quite a difference! In a good way of course  ;)

I think that the black ghost seems to be angry, with your white ghost he seems more like he's a friendly ghost that pop ups to give you helpers along the way ;D

I believe making a ghost white like you did offer a different approach based on what character you are going for and you could probably mix the white/black ratio for different frames and different ghosts. I do however also believe that the outline I have works great for black as intended which gives it the feelings I was going for, altough I'm sure those feelings can be enhanced ;D

Going with the idea of white you gave me I've now got several nice ideas on how to design for a different character so I'm off to pixeling :D

Phew :P I was wondering what to pixel next, thanks! :)

First of the hair. Awesome work! That really should set the standard for details for the rest of the image, you already got it going on in most places.

I'm feelin' there should be some eyebrow texturing. Not sure if there should be an actual small eyebrow line or just texturing like there is something there or with the eyelid so it gets the same feeling as the rest of the image :)

I think the legs seem a bit to similar. I mean they are normally but you rarely stand in a perspective where you see both feet pointing the same direction. The leg closer to us could probably be turned a bit more toward us so she looks more balanced. The 'whitespot' on the knee could be facing more toward us and the shoe also, you get my picture ;)

Freakin' kewl, would love to see this creature animated sometime in the future ;D
