Pixel Art / Re: [WIP?] RPGish stuff mockup

I really like the sprites with no outlines. I think they read very well for how small they are and have a unique style to them. The black in the scene kind of clashes for me, looks a little too unnatural. The tree is awesome. I'm struggling with palettes too so I can't really help you there. Nice work.

I really like it, but it seems as if its segmented too much. It seems almost too detailed and busy. Zooming in helps a bit but I find the pants and boots very distracting. It's very impressive, nice work.

Pixel Art / 3/4 topdown - Bear/Cat creature
« on: March 06, 2012, 08:13:01 pm »
Hi
This is an animal I created for my game which takes place on an alien world. He didn't really turn out too alien but that alright. The original one was the downward diagonal, and I feel that's the best one. I can live with most of them but I really don't like the up or down facing ones. They don't seem to convey the same feeling of depth or shape, maybe they need shading. I was kind of hoping their quality wouldn't be noticed as much once they are animated but it would be nice to fix them. critiques and edits welcome, would really like to know whats wrong with the up and down ones. Thanks

Pixel Art / Re: [C+C] soldier walk/crawl cycle + spritesheet

Awesome looking soldier. In the walking up sprite, his shoulders don't move up and down like in the other ones. He looks a little stiff in that one and that could possibly be the reason. Just wondering: If this is for a game and you directly control the guy, how are you going to handle walking and shooting at the same time?

In the walking animation it appears as if he's hopping along on one foot. The front foot doesn't seem to come down. Also to distinguish which leg is which during the animation you could shade one of them darker than the other. The guy looks really cool.

I'm not sure if you wanted critiques on the character, but from the angle she is viewed at, her legs look a bit too long for her body. Extending the torso my work since the arms look to match with the legs length wise. I really like the fine details in the buildings. The angle is nice, though it looks like a lot of work.

There seems to be too many jumbled colors that don't need to be there. Try using more solid colors, clean up the outline, then see how it reads. I think the legs could be a bit beefier, they seem too small for the guy. The updated version looks way better.

Looks pretty close to the original I'd say. The one where where shes facing away, the foreshortening isn't quite working on the left arm. Maybe I'm wrong but it looks a little stumpy. Also the little glimpse of face looks like it could come down a bit. The pockets look a little strange like they are inside out. Nice work.

I really like the simple look of it. For a platformer is may be tough to tell where you are going to fall off the edge when everything is on an angle.

Thanks for the comments. I added 2 pixels to the legs and slowed it down a bit. I still think the proportion is off on something. He will have to fight and climb so I want to solve these basic issues now. It is maybe a little too spastic for a regular walk. Please could someone correct all the proportions on the still side view? I've tried a few times but it hasn't turned out. Once hes the right size I think I'll take another crack at his walking animation.
