Pixel Art / Re: Plague Doctor [WIP]
« on: May 08, 2011, 05:46:38 am »
The last edit is looking vibrant with the light added, but the dithering is too obvious, and out of place. Try to take the billowyness of the robe into account a bit more, I expect it to hang in a 'U' shape from his arm pits, and roll over his belt a bit (it looks rather self supporting right now).

The beak of the mask curves to extremely, I know plague doctor masks tend to have this droop, but because of its position it seems to 'ride' the shoulder of the robe, whereas I think it would look better if its angle conflicted a bit more. I also think the straight and pointed plague doctor masks look more appealing.

I don't think you're fully taking into account how the light from the lantern falls. The ring caused by the lantern is much to small for it to be believable. The light given from oil/kerosene lanterns is usually dim, but not that dim. Try also making the ground directly beneath the lantern darker; the light should cause a heavy shadow. Take this into account for the top of the lantern, too.

This is a nice start you have here. Strong contrast and shadows will really give this piece life, or should I say; 'death' :3 .

This is very nice, the poem/story is also interesting, I'm reminded of Dr. Seuss.

The fridge door opening the wrong way is quite odd, I suggest changing that.

I don't think the cactus is that bad, as it follows the same cartoony trend as the other objects in the strip.

Challenges & Activities / Re: Tzigla Rocks!!!

Noticed something with the Tzigla homepage, not exactly a problem - I'm just nitpicking :P
There appears to be some kind of overlay on the featured board displayed at the homepage, as darker tiles have oddly coloured grains. Not a big issue by any means, but It detracts slightly from the pixel-arty-ness.

General Discussion / Re: Official Off-Topic Thread

Finally, someone's making a 2.5 d game for the 3DS.
I personally think the graphics look nicer (I didn't care much for the original's pixel art graphics).
I didn't like Cave Story that much, so I'm not really interested in this, but still - it looks very nice.

Also, there's another Humble Bundle released:

There are only games from the one developer, but whatever, it's practically free!

The art in this thread is absolutely excellent.

I think that right before he plants his foot on the ground in front of him, his leg isn't extended forward enough, it looks as though he could trip if he's not careful :S That's the only problem I currently see with the legs.

Also, his arms look a bit too puny, and his chest to beefy; when I look at him, I think lumberjack, so I'd assume his arms would be a bit chunkier. The fact that he looks like a lumberjack to me kind of makes the chunky chest acceptable I geuss, but in his standing pose, his lower chest is sucked in; I don't get it?

Will you be adding more detail, shading, texture, etc? Right now it looks kind of plain, and the upper half of his body lacks shading.

Apart from these issues, it's looking very fluid/dynamic.

Haha, these are cool. I can't really see any issues except for the grass in the last background looks odd, and one of the colours on the palms is the same as the background. The other backgrounds look also look pretty average :/

I'll certainly give this a DL after school :D

The shading around the head looks odd, and the shading on the head doesn't suit the rest of the body. The head seems flat, and pasted onto the rest of the body, and the unrealistic shadows behind it only reinforce my assumption.
I also think the head should be looking the other direction, because it just doesn't seem a part of the body; see how its body is facing down to the left? It looks as though you were originally having the head point that way, but then realised it would take away from the definition of the "d" so changed it. I suggest making the body curve more in the direction of the head, by turning his claws in that direction, changing the stance of its left foot (our left) and showing some kind of definiton caused by shoulder bones.

As for the tail, I think I see what you see wrong with it; it's too pointy? You should just try to make it rounder, and less like a needle.

These are looking pretty good, the pallette and overall tone of the background looks great, but the (thorns?) seem out of place. I can see you're trying to make those tiles contrast, but the red doesn't really suit the style of the background; the entire tile doesn't, at that. The tiles also use ditherithing, whereas the background does not, and I expect them to be more wavy and loose like the background is. So... yeah, the tiles just don't suit the background :3

I noticed the top right tree/vine in the background doesn't have vines joining the flowers like the others do. I assume this is a mistake, no?

Also, will the background layers use parallax scrolling? That would look splendid :)

It looks good! The background elements are really nice, I especially love the branch :3
