Pixel Art / [WIP] 4bit RPG Tiles and Sprites
« on: March 09, 2015, 01:54:25 am »
I've reached that point where I've been staring at it for too long to be objective about it, haha! I'd be grateful for any critique.

I'm specifically unsure about the tall furniture like the bookcase and wardrobe. They look really thick. Is it worth it to save a tile and keep them as they are or should I put them on a diet?

There's no other restrictions, I just pixelled a bit of a project with this 16-color palette a year or two ago (I stole a couple of these tiles from it, most notably the rug) and loved working with the limit. I'd love to improve it if I can but it's working pretty well for me so far.

Thanks for your time!

Pixel Art / [WIP] 16-color palette sprites and tiles

Working on some animations for my lady demon sprite. (The bit I'm working on here is the bottom middle walk animation there. The rest is just scraps. Concept art, unfinished frames, human sprites for size reference, etc.) I feel like I'm making progress, little by little. The legs look okay to me individually, but I think the animation as a whole looks kind of choppy. I'd like to keep it to four frames, if possible, to match my other sprites. Here's what I've got so far, old to new:

<<most recent

Sorry for the background on the more recent sprites; I don't like them on the light-colored forum bg. They're meant for a significantly darker bg. Also sorry for that weird bobbing-head action going on in the more one of the gifs -- I was editing the standing frame to stand up straighter and I didn't fix two of the frames. No arms yet. I'll add them when I've got the rest of the sprite figured out, heh.

I'm thinking I really need to vary the colors on the legs to differentiate them but I'm not quite sure how to do it.

Almost forgot to mention: I'm working with a 16-color palette, not including that dark grey bg.

Always looking to improve it.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Action RPG Mockup

There's about a million things I don't like about this but I'll just wait for some crits because I'm totally exhausted with it at the moment. I tried some different things with the sprite.

Here's the original concept sprite thing for the main character:

We decided to go much smaller, and the hair was changed somewhat. And here is the concept art for the forest. I'd like to try to stick to that sort of color/atmosphere.

I know the colors are a little all over the place; I'll fix them up soon.

An average college student is on spring break when his rich, eccentric, great uncle suddenly passes away. On a whim, he gets together a group of friends for a bit of looting the weekend before crazy Uncle Horace's mansion is to be sold. What could go wrong? It's not like the place is haunted and they'll get trapped there after nightfall and be slowly picked off by the demonic entities that have taken over the house or something.

...So anyway, here is some stuff I have pixelled for the project. Decided it would be fun to severely limit my palette (ho ho ho) so 16 colors, not including the grey background. I know the tiles are kind of bright for a haunted house, but I'm hoping to have some kind of shadow overlay that is cleared by light sources, so it wouldn't be super-bright everywhere. Hrm. Anyhoo....

A character (concept here), some enemies, my palette, some items, some tiles, the UI frame thing.

I'd be grateful for any critique! I'm so terrible at those interior tiles, especially. If anybody knows any games with interiors I could look at, that would be nice, too.

Thanks for looking!

Pixel Art / Looking for some sprite critique...
« on: November 28, 2010, 04:05:34 am »
Hello! I'm just practicing some pixelling and I don't really know anyone else who who knows anything about it, so I came here to look for help making it better. :3 Here's the sprite I was working on today:

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Here's some concept art of her, to show you where I'm coming from:

Thank you! I might work on some animations for her too.
Started on a running animation...
Something weird about it but I can't put my finger on it. Started blocking in colors, but something is still bugging me....

Pixel Art / [WiP] Sprite Base and Tiles

Work-in-progress sprite base for my game.  :)

Just looking at it here, all lined up like this, I can tell there's some work to be done. I'll keep working on it but hopefully I can get some crits, too! :D

And the very beginnings of a tileset to go with him:

No transitions yet, and I've yet to make any alternate versions.

Thanks in advance for any comments!

EDIT: Changed img tags to url to make the thread less image heavy. (They're bad anyway, haha~)
