Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#069 - Minefields Project - Scenery, Menu
« on: July 10, 2011, 12:22:25 pm »
I'm reworking the first level of my upcoming iPhone game, and I'm looking for any advice you have to offer. The game works like iCopter (press the screen to go up, release to go down) and there are obstacles. I'd like to implement a type of obstacle for the top of the level (cranes?) but I'm having a hard time finding ideas. Any and all advice welcome :)

Pixel Art / Animated waterfall tile
« on: May 03, 2011, 08:39:58 am »
It's been a long time since I've posted in these forums! Lil nostalgia! :D But since I've started pixeling a little more, I figured why not.

So I'm working on an amazon-themed landscape for a sidescrolling game on iPhone and currently trying to make a nice waterfall animated tile. For now, focusing on the base tile and I'll animate it later, when I actually get something nice.

So here are my latest explorations... there's something not right with this and I'm quickly getting frustrated, as I've always been absolute sh*t at trying to pixel water for some reason. Halpmeh? :(

Thanks!

General Discussion / Downloadable Video Tutorials
« on: May 25, 2009, 06:19:01 pm »
Hey guys, I've recently joined the awesome artist community at conceptart.org and wanted to give you guys a shout about the great downloadable tutorial videos they have on the website, which teach you loads of tips, tricks and work flows of great digital and traditional artists such as Jason Chan, Andrew Jones and Whit Brachna. Conceptart.org is a non-profit organization, so for the amount and quality of information that's being given away, you're definitely getting more than your money's worth. It's not like this stuff only applies to digital art either - much of the things you'll learn apply to all styles of 2d art so pixel artists can learn a lot as well.

Anyway, check out this section of the website. The video project is called Massive Black, and they've got quite a heap of videos to choose from about different aspects of digital art (e.g. weapon design, effectively using masks in photoshop, how to make a steam punk environment... etc)

I can't recommend these enough to aspiring digital artists who need a little more direction or inspiration. I've downloaded plenty already and will keep buying more because they've teached me so much.

Cheers,
Ceddo.

Pixel Art / Secret of Mana-style Sprite
« on: April 28, 2008, 06:55:49 pm »
Hey guys,
I've always been frustrated by conveying perspective into pixel art, especially in sprites. I'm making a bunch of sprites now and I'd like to get some feedback on how to improve them. Here's my first one. I realize my anotomy is far from perfect - in fact, it may be the flaw that's holding me back, but some tips from you guys would really make a difference.

General Discussion / Guides/books for digital painting?
« on: March 29, 2008, 10:00:56 pm »
Hey,
I've been looking all over the web and where I live for a guide or a book for digital painting, and I've found two books that might be what I'm looking for but I'd like to make sure before I purchase anything. I basically want a book that explores the different ways of doing digital painting, techniques and brushes that could be used, step-by-step WIP's by the greats to show how they do it, etc.

Has anyone had the problem of not finding what they want, and can anyone link me to a good book or guide with what i'm looking for in it?

General Discussion / Who's Been Playing "Pixel Maze Platformer"?
« on: October 28, 2007, 10:54:01 pm »
:) I made my own maze, and although it's not quite finished yet I still think it's post-worthy until I do finish it. Here's the link to the game: Pixel Maze Platformer
..to play my map, go to the "CREATE" section on the bottom right and paste this link:

Yep, it is possible, although the underground maze is blocked at the end (forgot to remove the black). You can still do it though. Have fun!

Pixel Art / [NPA Elements] "King Me"! Checkers
« on: August 01, 2007, 05:47:57 pm »
(posted on Pixeljoint as well)

I'm creating a checkers inspired game, and I've now come to the stage of making the main screen. Here's what I've done so far. There are a few NPA elements in it.

The logo for the game needs to be done, and I'm having a hard time coming up with its' concept! Some elements that should be in it are a medieval-looking scroll (or something similar to that, if you have a better idea) and a medieval-looking crown.

Edit: a simplified version of the final logo will replace the current glowy text. The logo doesn't have to fit there on its' own, I can move things around or make it overlap the book if I need to.

I can't help but think that it lacks flow and dynamicism, but this is the furthest I've gotten to a decent logo.

Update:
I think I have something here. If this works out I'll make a fullscreen version.

Pixel Art / Player Avatar System [nudity?]
« on: April 21, 2007, 06:53:26 pm »
Hey,

I need to make a player avatar system that uses a naked base, on which I will superpose weapons and armor. The idea is that the player can see which armor he is wearing any time, and looks cool with it.

Naked base:

Notice he's missing a head and a... the latter won't be done :)

I inspired myself with Fool's beautiful Anika piece, as a pose reference and guide. Thank you for any crits and comments!

Pixel Art / Topdown Rpg Character [WIP]
« on: February 06, 2007, 05:59:41 pm »
I'm working on an Rpg, and I'm simply having too many issues with the character base! I finally managed to get a decent-looking frontal view, but now that I'm attempting the side-view, it's just the same thing all over, without the enthusiasm of starting a new piece.

So, people of pixelation! Help me get rid of my ugly mistakes, and help me make something great in their place!

(comments on the frontal view are also alright)

Alright, I'm working on some role-playing game fantasy/medieval characters. They're in the top-down view, and I just need comments & suggestions to make them look better!

By the way, these will all be viewed at 2x.. so keep that in mind please :)
