Pixel Art / Need Second Opinion

I believe my friend is right and I need to bend the knees more, but I'd just like to get a second opinion from people who've animated before. This is an 8 frame sideways and diagonal-upward run cycles.

I changed the sideways animation so that its at less of an angle and made the knees bend more near the legs lifting up.

Pixel Art / Help With Character Base

I haven't done much sprite work or art in general. I'm looking for critique or suggestions to improve the base of the model before I add any details to just remove later. The model doesn't have arms because I'm using this for a game and need to do separate stuff to them.
