Pixel Art / Character sprite, trying to imitate my own style
« on: November 04, 2012, 06:55:23 pm »
Hey guys! I am makin gaem. The problem is, I drew my concept art in a specific art style and I'm having a hard time getting my sprites to match. The game is on a hexagonal semi-topdown grid.

And a clearer version of her outfit

Pixel Art / Tactical RPG sprites
« on: May 23, 2012, 10:31:21 pm »
Let's see if I can actually finish this one

The first three main characters will have unique sprites. The others will probably get different hairs and generic class outfits. They're 32x32 so I can animate them quickly, but I'm open to different sizes.
Feedback and suggestions would be super awesome!
Oh, and question - how would you feel about a half top-down, half side grid? Like this, but isometric?

Pixel Art / I am the sun: game tileset WIP
« on: November 09, 2010, 05:48:42 am »
Hey guys, I'm back  :) Right now I'm just attempting something small to get a better grasp on programming, so I'm trying to keep it simple.

Screenshots:

The backgrounds are extreme WIP. In the second screenshot he's standing over water; I'll add a reflection when I finally get my hands on Flash 5. I used a partially transparent yellow rectangle over the bg in the third one to convey what the atmosphere should be like.

So I'm frustrated with the palettes and style. They look okay for each individual tile, I think, but collectively the game doesn't have a defining look to it.
Also, I want to stray away from the Cave Story look but I'm not sure how to give the player sprite more character.

General Discussion / No actually that wasn't handled well at all
« on: April 05, 2010, 03:00:54 am »
I don't know if this belongs here or anywhere, and apologies if it doesn't.
I'm talking about this thread.
For those of you who missed it, Hamburger posted an image that was traced from a picture he found online and utilized layer effects to achieve a pixel-like effect. Of course that's bad in pixel art, but the thing is, he fully described his methods first post, and he really didn't understand what was wrong, and no, he wasn't trolling.
I don't know about you guys, but if you were just starting pixel art, and you posted your first ever piece hoping to get some constructive criticism, and a bunch of people shot you down without proper explanation, how would you feel about it?
I really don't mean to be offensive but I'm just questioning the way that thread went down.

Pixel Art / Lion
« on: February 19, 2010, 08:41:02 pm »

Still very much a WIP. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and attempt something semirealistic.
I found out too late that lions don't stretch and snarl at the same time, so I'm just going to keep him in that position.
Also, there's something wrong with his face but I don't know what :yell: I'm confused about when to dither and when not to dither, and also about why my palette is such fail. Argharghargh

Pixel Art / Character sketch
« on: January 11, 2010, 02:06:58 am »
Hey guys :D I'm not exactly new to pixelling, but I have a lot to learn ...
Well, here's a character I made a while ago. I'm not really satisfied with the hair and the arms on the walking animation, but I'm not sure as to how to go about fixing it :(

Any critiques would be appreciated!

Edit: Fixed it up a little ...
