Pixel Art / Understanding water flow in top down perspective

I really want make realistic and dynamic looking water in my game without using any Program Script or shades. I have only seen two piece of art with very impressive water flow.. One is from  Cocefi and second is from Decroded. I really want achieve same dynamic feeling in my water. Im still noob when it comes to water flow.. So I really want understand them better.

So here is bunch of question I want ask.   

So If  I understand right.. If the water is deep.. This darker shade is supposed to be reflection of the cliff? If the cliff is much higher.. Does it  means the shadow need to be higher too?



2. Does water flow fast only if there is waterfall nearby? Does normal wind make it flow as fast or just slower?  I tried to capture simple wind/waterfall movement.. Not sure If im doing it right.. This has just only 1 tile..



3.  How does the water shadow reflection animation works? I have watched some of Studio ghibli water shadow movement and real life. They seems to very Whobbly and wavey. I really have struggled to make the water flow like that in past.. So im trying still achieve the same flow.

Hello guys. I started to animate again but I tend to make a lot of erros because Im still pretty noob when it comes animation. I would love to hear some  criticism. The animation supposed to be faster but when I saved it as Gif it turned to very slow.

Pixel Art / Too bright colors?

Im working on my personal project which is small 2D action rpg game and I have got critic that my colors are too bright. The problem is that I see no  same problem with my monitor. So is my color too bright? Did it burn you eyes? This always happen with my works. They always turn to be super bright in other people computers but not  mine.

Im working on Mariovania like game with my brother. Im animating water first time and im really dont know  what Im doing right and what Im doing wrong.. I would love to hear some  criticism.. It looks busy right now because I was plan to add small  waterfall..

Pixel Art / Waterfall flow problem

Hello guys long time no see! I have been making platformer game with my Bro and I started to create Waterfall animation for the scene.. but problem is that Im not good at animating things.. So I have problem with my waterfall that I created..... Problem is that Flow of the waterfall does not look smooth. It does not look like it flowings.... How Do I get flow more smoother? It has only 4 frame..  Does it need more frame? What  I doing  wrong?

General Discussion / Modern day pixel art?

I wonder why almost all indie 2D pixel games looks like these?  It is easier to make? Or it is some kind of fashion nowadays? There are lot of people that want make homage to old school pixel art games.. but when I saw this kind of pixel of art it never reminds me of old school... Maybe this some kinda of modern day pixel art style???  Owl boy, Iconoclast, Chasm are the only ones that looks like old school to me and maybe there are more that I dont know..

Pixel Art / Tree problem [Wip]

Hello! I started practise again with trees and Im actually happy with the foliage texturing but there is one annynoing problem!

In normal  view the green foliage looks okay but when Im flipping it  in horizontal its.. looks so horrible  :'(.. Is this illusion? How I can fix it..? Also does green foliago looks flat?

This maybe wrong place to put it... I have problem with Pain tool sai.. please help me.

When I open my Sai or Photoshop file in pain tool sai.. It does not show my work.. Only what I see is layers of my work and white canavas. Do you know the problem?

2D & 3D / My rpg monster

Hello I started drawing Monster and character first time in 2011 for my game.. I've been practiced almost 2 years.  My style has changed many times but I have not found my true style yet.  As you can see my artwork lack of perspective and there is also shading and anatomy problems. I want improve these characters..Criticism is very welcome here!
